Re: Holy cow, Netflix really does use a lot of bandwidth ...

My roku has hdmi output.
mine is the HD model I think they do make an sd model as well.

I talked to roku about carrying HULU but that said at this time the techs can't comment.

I guess its a licensing thing..I wish they had it.

My firewall takes an hourly snapshot of the inbound and outbound traffic to the cable modem. Here are a few hours of numbers, starting a little before I started to watch a Netflix HD movie, and ending a little after I finished watching the movie.

The columns are: Date Time Download Upload

Looks like about 3GB for the movie.

Actually, that's close to what Pandora calculated: he calculated 2.83GB for 1 hour 40 minutes, although he didn't know B!=b (Byte!=bit), so I corrected for that. That means he's under by about 18% (given your chart that shows 3,357,898,042 bytes used). We can call the 18% "overhead". Anyway, it's darn close to his napkin calculation (in which his only error was b!=B). Yes, the math is straightforward, once you have the right numbers and variables to plug in to the right equations.
