 | Beu bye Bell! Yesterday i was talking to a "fidelization" agent...
Well, the woman was nice and although she had a strange acent i wasn't having a conversation with someone located somewhere overseas... The only problem with her was that she kept insisting over offering these "Up-To" services:
2 Mbps (essential plus!) 5 Mbps Fibe 7 (60 GB/month) 10 Mbps 16 Mbps
Sorry for the lack of accuracy, that's all i managed to write down while i was trying to make it clear to her that my line which used to work reasonably well at 5 Mbps using any of my seven MoDems now only supports 3 Mbps using the TP-Link TD-8841, euh...
Anyway, my issue with that agent is that she kept repeating the "Up-To" words and was never able to garantee a minimum speed - not to mention that it seemed natural for her to offer 16 Mbps after being told that i can no longer stay connected at 5!...

Consequently, of course, all of her stragegies simply failed to change my mind: lucky me, i've been around on this web site long enough to know better. Really, how could she think i might agree to a contract with no assurance that switching to Bell would mean that Bell should get that damn phone line repaired 1st?!...
So, i made a counter-offer: get the line fixed (or just undo what was done to it!) and then we talk... Being with Velcom instead of Bell didn't help, naturally!!!
Ultimately, that person "passed the bucket" to a guy from another department who just told me that if my speed is below 80 % of the announced rate there's a chance a technician might come to "visit" me. That's still too little too late i'm afraid: i'm droping DSL and switching to cable, because i see no alternative.

Re: Beu bye Bell! If a remote has been installed in your area that is likely why your line has suffered.
I had a nice 7meg profile and 85% RCO rock solid stable on both lines.
Then bell installed a remote and activated it, I had to have my profile dropped to 2.5megabits interleave to keep my connection stable. SNR was horrible on both lines constant error's on my line, attenuation stayed the same.
4 tickets with teksavvy later I am on a remote now with 5megabit profiles on each of my lines.
My statistics are fantastic and I have less then 3 crc errors in a one month period. | | 1 edit | Just Like Mushrooms Popping Up Over Night! |
Hi GrayFox,
I'd bet you're right to ask about "remotes" in the area but i must point out there are some significant details which are worth to mention in the present case: take a close look at this animated capture showing how my "Bit-Loading" curves changed!... They used to have a natural look for years and then a sudden modification took place over night: for some unkown reason to me the curves conformed invariably to an artificial shape (e.g. regular "clean" slope) which strongly suggests my line's degradation may very well have been induced in a controlled manner, actually (Bell's new way to punish 3rd-party DSL customers it would seem)!

The attenuation levels weren't affected in a noticeable way but my RCO, SNR Margin and CRC Error Rates went crap. They were so bad only one out of seven MoDems could stay connected at 5056/800 Kbps FastPath. The rest of my DSL units wouldn't have been able to remain on-line unless i downgraded to 3008 Kbps or so:
MoDem & Bell Portal BitRates both concur to be false!, Bicephale, 2010-Jun-3
Of course, i was forced to quit subscribing to DSL as a consequence, since Bell couldn't be forced by my ISP to fix the problem, by removing a "Bridge Tap" for starters.
