| said by siljaline:The changelog is long and extensive -- 2010-07-21: Version 2.0.3 (build 20664) - Fix: fixed bug in transfer cap where it would sometimes not refresh the transfer count - Change: disable IPv6 on Win7 by default. Could be turned on using net.disable_ipv6 property. - Change: added more default search engines - Fix: fixed string truncation of &ip= parameter to trackers when on IPv6 -- I found the key to success but somebody changed the lock. |

 | reply to siljaline I'm still using 1.6.1 because at the time of the next update, there were some privacy concerns (IIRC) about the new vers..
Have those fears been refuted? Should I upgrade? |

| If you were concerned about it enough to still be way back on 1.6.1, you should use a different client, preferably open source. There will always be concerns about new utorrent versions because it's impossible to serve 2 masters with such opposite interests(MPAA/RIAA who bought Bram Cohen who bought utorrent vs filesharers). My advice to anyone who asks is to steer clear. People have choices of good clients without such questions surrounding them on pretty much any platform. utorrent offers nothing unique of value to the table, with today's choices. -- The new Sony rootkit-Using the ability to remove features you paid for. 1 edit | reply to jimboe You should updgrade, there comes a point where old software is rendered like Swiss Cheese from a security standpoint.
uTorrent 2.0.3 is fine and stable - turn off the phone-home stuff and you will be current.
edit for typo What's boiling in uTorrents's idea bank I find a bit disturbing.
Sorry for late follow-up |

OZOPremium join:2003-01-17 kudos:2 | reply to jimboe jimboe , you can try new version 2.0.3 and then switch it back to 1.6.1. It's easy to do. Keep your 1.6.1 executable file, download the new file v.2.0.3 and run. It will ask to install itself. Allow it to run, but un-tick all options it offers (11 options on several wizard pages). At the end it will start the new version, which will keep all your old setting and stats. Then, at any time later on, you may run your old v.1.6.1 version again and it will install it back.
I do it all the time switching between 1.8.5 and the latest versions. And the reason is - I'm not happy with the latest development... While v.2.0.3 is a bit better, then its close predecessors, it still in some cases slow. And under "slow" I mean it may start downloading (and/or uploading) some torrents with the speed around 1 kB/s or even less and there is nothing I can do about it... I switch to the old version and may see a different story (with the same torrent, of cause). They may start use some different throttling technique and it may slow down the exchange dramatically out of nowhere.
With the uTorrents the newest is not necessarily better. Watch for other clients used around ("Client" column) and compare how they behave, it may give you some ideas...
BTW, anyone knows where to find old uTorrent's files? -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |
