Frontier Fios speed dropped down (migrated from verizon)

Well suddenly I receive letter saying welcome to frontier.
Next thing I know my speeds were dropped from 25/25 to 16/5.
And the worst part is frontier claims that NIC card on my computer is bad. You kidding? I had 25/25 full with verizon adn what now?

Called customer support again and got same. What the **ck?! Why the hell would you make contract for 25/25 and have 16/5?!

Frontier is not changing FiOS speeds.

Hardware does go bad. You might have to do some troubleshooting on your own, starting with rebooting computer, router, and ONT. If have another computer to test with, then that would be helpful in narrowing down your problem.

Who knows, there might even be a hardware failure at the CO.

If you want more assistance from folks here, we could use some more information about your set up: which router, what OS, how you're connected, what speed tests you're using, etc.

Computer is being used as a router machine.
NIC cost me $250, I got another same one and still exactly same speed. Got that nic into another computer and exactly same speed again.

Trouble shooting? Restarting? You must be kidding me.

If I have computer used up as a router then you think I didn't go threw troubleshooting?

And I would know that from your first post how?

You don't want help, you want to rant. Good luck, I hope you're able to sort it out.

I love to hack stuck together too..
So you built a router... Great!
I am using the FIOS router on comcast used to have a Lynsys with DDWRT.
My speeds are just fine.
Also not seeing massive my FIOS got slow posts (some for DSL) so maybe its something in your system
Things people never T-shoot
Wiring
Dirty Power
Open Grounds
Noise from other electronics etc.

From your POV it was all fine until Frontier
From Frontiers POV everyone is fine but you.

Got a $10 router you can try out for a test?

My bet?

For quite a while, EVERY customer was provisioned for 25/25.

15/5 New install - surprise! You got 25/25.
25/25 New install - you got your 25/25.

I'm willing to bet that the OP has all along been paying for the 15/5 plan and Frontier finally knocked him down to what he was paying for.

Are you saying that those of us who signed up for 25/15 but have been getting 25/25 all along are going to be knocked down to 25/15? If so, that will suck.

Many people that were provisioned at 25/15 didn't even know they were getting 25/25 and if frontier changed it to what you are actually paying for then there should be no complaints... that being said there was a symmetrical 25/25 package and if that is what you have you might want to plug in the fios router you were given and start troubleshooting. If they come to your house to troubleshoot the problem and they find your pc being used as a router they will put one of their routers in to troubleshoot and plug in with their laptop. If it tests okay in the standard configuration ie their router and an optimized pc they will likely bill you for the truck roll and the techs time there. If it indeed tests more than 20 percent lower that your provisioned speed consistently they will likely isolate at the ONT on the side of your house to eliminate your inside wire. If it still tests low they are 100 percent responsible to fix it at no charge since the problem is with their network.

The reason I am telling you this is because you need to isolate it yourself before you get a tech out there because if he finds it working okay in their installed configuration you will be out your money and time!

I was paying for 25/25 and I had 25/25 until approximately verizon fios got sold to frontier.

What is so hard to understand? Now they simply say you have 25/25 but I am no idiot to notice difference

If this is the case, I have a feeling that all the people who paid for 25/25 all this time aren't going to be too happy to find out that they could have gotten the same service for $15 less per month.

I don't think it was EVERY customer. I think the 35/20's got provisioned at 35/35 and then the 35/20 plan was officially replaced with 35/35. Similarly for 25/15 -- provisioned for 25/25 initially, and then replaced officially with the 25/25 plan.

Not sure what all happened with other plans as I didn't pay much attention, being on the 20/20 plan when all this happened. I "upgraded" to Extreme HD (2009) with the 25/15 plan and have always gotten 25/25.

Hmm... Sicne you are the only one having the problem.. what are you?.. if you assume they are cheating you.
What happened to the router that comes with the service? Have you tested with that plugged in so they can actually support you?

Also how are you testing.. I know my closest server on speed test can't deal with the 25 upload.. so I test with some a bit further and I am good.

If they say you a provisionsed 25/25 why not assume that you are and do some intelligent trouble shooting..

Try a different router.. or did I miss that in your defense of the expensive router you built while all of us with free and low cost routers are fine.
Why on earth did you pay $250 for a NIC?

Try these speed test sites:

»my.verizon.com/micro/speedtest/broadband/

»myspeed.visualware.com/index.php
(can vary with location - Vancouver and San Jose work well)

(Lynnwood, WA works best for me, but it is close too)

Good evening. For what it's worth we're on the 20/5 package and get 25/25. Just nice to have the extra speed. Won't be any big deal to us if we end up with what we are supposed to have. Frank
