| Intel 82801AA Chipset Driver
Does any have or know where I can get the following audio chipset driver:
AC'97 Driver for Intel 82801AA Controller
I found some drivers for the AC'97 but they were not by Intel and they hosed up my system. Some were Cirrus Logic, Crystal, Avance, etc.
Thanks

| reply to joepwpb Thanks for the information...
I went to the Intel site but could not find any information on the "828" family chipset. Also, the other link, to the Driver Wizard site, did not produce any drivers for the Intel AC'97 chip.
thanks again

| reply to joepwpb Joe P, I just checked the link in my post and it certainly didn't lead to the page I was at. Weird. Hopefully this link will take you to the search page: »drivers.on-line.net.nz/. Enter the following info:
Information to find: Avance 97 (exactly as written)* Category: Sound Operating System: Any
*If you don't you will get no results. Your search should turn up five Avance zip files for download, including one for the 82801AA chipset. Hope this helps. |

| Thanks mens rea...
I went to that site earlier today and saw that driver but I don't think it is for the chip I have. According to the information in device manager it is an Intel not Avance. The information is as follows:
"AC'97 Driver for Intel 82801AA Controller" "Driver Manufacturer: Intel" "Driver Provider: Microsoft" "Driver Date: 06/08/2001"
So, based on that data I believe I have to find the driver for the Intel. As I stated in my original post I got duped into trying the Crystal manufacturer driver and it hosed my system.
Thanks for your help...

| reply to joepwpb Sorry that was of no use. Here's another place to look, if you haven't looked here already: »www.microsoft.com/technet/treevi···ault.asp. Some sites require registration. It's gotta be there somewhere! |

| No Problem!!! I really appreciate your assistance.
That was a great link and you would think it had to be there. Well, no such luck. I noticed at one site that they had a "Most Wanted Drivers" list and my driver was not on there but there were over 4,000 folks looking for an Opti Audio driver!!!
I fired off a few requests for the driver at more than one site. I'll post the results when received. In the mean time...back to searching!!!
Thanks again,

| It is a pre-built, store bought machine and the driver is on the restore CD but does not work. I have a second hard drive with another OS and I need the driver to get the audio functioning since it is not found on the OS CD-ROM.
Thanks

| reply to joepwpb What is the motherboard Model# / manufacturer of your PC & Model #?
Intel is the manufacturer of the 82801AA ( IHC ) chip that uses the AC'97 Intel Standard, it is not the sound chip, it is an I/O controller. You can get installation drivers for this here: »support.intel.com/support/chipse···lers.htm
"AC'97 is a concept which is not connected with a motherboard. It is a specification from Intel for an audio codec architecture (AC - Audio Codec) and digital interface AC-link, which connects this codec with Digital Controller. The latter can be realized in different ways: on a program level (only a bus controller is integrated into a chipset), on a soft hardware level (HSP, DSP), on a hardware one (DSP). In this case a controller or even the whole sound card are said to be implemented in the AC'97-standard (AC'97 compliant). "
for specific sound drivers we will need a little more information, as requested above. Open the case and look on the board for identification. Or just get it from the post screen, when it is counting memory. Should be at the top or bottom of the screen.

I collected the following information from SiSoft Sandra and Belarc Advisor:
PC Manufacturer and Model: E-Machine 1000B
MainBoard: Intel Corporation Whitney System CR Platform Revision A0
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 01/08/2001
Display: Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller
Audio: AC'97 Driver for Intel(r) 82801AA Controller
I hope this is the information you are seeking and it is adequate to locate the appropriate driver.
I went to that Intel page you posted but I don't think it does any good for me because I don't have the driver to install. So, I don't know what I would do with a "Chipset Software Installation Utility", without the software.
Frankly, most of your explanation was beyond my scope of knowledge. All I am looking for is a .exe, .drv or .inf file to enable me to use this on-board controller.
I greatly appreciate your time and assistance.
Thanks again

| reply to joepwpb Well I have researched and can only determine that intel provides the Host controller ( IHC ) AC'97 82801aa that controls the audio chip set. I can not determine your exact mother board from e-machines or from your previous post. There are three sound chips ( the best I can figure ) that Intel put on boards with the 810e chipset.
ESS, Sound Blaster PCI 128 and SoundMax. I would guess that you have the Sound Max integrated sound system. If you click on the sound card info in Sandra, does it give us any further clue to it's identity?
One easy way to find out exact model of motherboard is to catch the numbers displayed in the bios post screen. When the big E appears, hit esc. then hit pause break ( third key to the right of F-12. Write down the numbers at the top of screen and at the bottom of the screen. If it continues past this too fast for you just hit CTRL-ALT-DEL immediately, this will reboot, do this as many times as it takes to get the numbers. this will not hurt the machine or windows, provided you do it as soon as bios screen changes.
Try this , intel boards are labeled like CA810E, SE440BX, CA815EEA2 etc. see what you can get me.
we will get this

| reply to joepwpb This is the motherboard on that system

I got it from emachines website.

I got that from the link above. It looks like the system board uses a Crystal CS4280 or a CS4281 sound chip. Sisoft Sandra 2002 should be able to check that. I'll look around and see what drivers i can find |

| reply to gunr1 I rebooted but the only information displayed was the Phoenix Bios data and two splash screens.
Within the last half hour I was able to find a site which had the specs for my system. The motherboard was listed as:
Anaheim-3 Rev 3
I searched for that brand/manufacturer but came up empty.
Additionally, I went to a driver site called Drivers-Online and ran their "driver wizard" which detected the following:
82801AA 8XX CHIPSET AC'97 AUDIO CONTROLLER
Crystal WDM Audio 98SE.zip
I tried to download the file but the link was broken. I don't know how accurate this wizard is so don't bet the bank on that information.
Thanks

| reply to onavi Great find onavi!!!
Can you send me the link where you got the motherboard information on the e-machine site?? I also discovered (I think) that it uses the Crystal sound chip but I don't know how to verify it on my system. As you may not know, I am currently running Win ME on one drive that has the driver loaded (from the factory) and working fine. I need the driver file so I can go to my other drive and load either 98 or XP. So maybe there is a way to find out what Crystal driver it uses from the current OS.
Thanks

so you are running 98,ME and XP? cirrus doesn't provide a driver for ME, but I would guess you could use the 98 driver, at least you don't need it for all 3 OS's. WinXP doesn't include a driver for the sound? I was reading on sites that it did for the Crystal sound. Lemme see if I can find were I read that |
