Because Verizon's "5-12mbps" is substantially faster than existing HSPA+ deployments in the USA (T-Mobile) and Canada (Rogers/Bell/Telus) at 9-14mbps.
How bout you read up on the technology before throwing around LTE talking points you read from some blog.
