Re: Intel 82801AA Chipset Driver

Thanks gunr...

I collected the following information from SiSoft Sandra and Belarc Advisor:

PC Manufacturer and Model: E-Machine 1000B

MainBoard: Intel Corporation Whitney System CR Platform
Revision A0

BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 01/08/2001

Display: Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller

Audio: AC'97 Driver for Intel(r) 82801AA Controller

I hope this is the information you are seeking and it is adequate to locate the appropriate driver.

I went to that Intel page you posted but I don't think it does any good for me because I don't have the driver to install. So, I don't know what I would do with a "Chipset Software Installation Utility", without the software.

Frankly, most of your explanation was beyond my scope of knowledge. All I am looking for is a .exe, .drv or .inf file to enable me to use this on-board controller.

I greatly appreciate your time and assistance.

Thanks again

Joe P

What is the motherboard Model# / manufacturer of your PC & Model #?

Intel is the manufacturer of the 82801AA ( IHC ) chip that uses the AC'97 Intel Standard, it is not the sound chip, it is an I/O controller. You can get installation drivers for this here:
»support.intel.com/support/chipse···lers.htm

"AC'97 is a concept which is not connected with a motherboard. It is a specification from Intel for an audio codec architecture (AC - Audio Codec) and digital interface AC-link, which connects this codec with Digital Controller. The latter can be realized in different ways: on a program level (only a bus controller is integrated into a chipset), on a soft hardware level (HSP, DSP), on a hardware one (DSP). In this case a controller or even the whole sound card are said to be implemented in the AC'97-standard (AC'97 compliant). "

for specific sound drivers we will need a little more information, as requested above. Open the case and look on the board for identification. Or just get it from the post screen, when it is counting memory. Should be at the top or bottom of the screen.
