Anyone using that Delta 8000RPM fan on CPU?

I was looking at getting a cooler CPU fan. I came across this Delta monster. 8000rpm, 50cfm. I know it's loud but that won't bother me. I curious to know if it's more hype or if I will se better performance than my Coolermaster 6131C fan (5500Rpm I think). It will be planted on the Coolermaster heatsink over a XP2000. Thanks for any info or ideas, I would prefer to just replace the fan.

I've got a Delta running 7500 rpm, and I thought the same as you. Don't do it. Look for an 80mm fan with an adapter to 60mm. That way you can run more cfm and keep you rpms (i.e. noise) down. I just installed a pair of Volcano 7s (80mm reduced down) on a system and they work well (and less noisy), but I'd get the 7+ or 7A (whatever they're calling it) with the 3 position switch to control fan speed.

Why don't you use Speedfan program?
That program drops my 7000RPM fan down to 5000RPM.

Just be real careful with that Delta. It pulls close to 10 watts of power! You can possibly damage the motherboard due to overload. You could use an adapter to convert it to a 4-pin pass through connector to be safe, although you would lose any speed control options.

»2cooltek.safeshopper.com/58/300.htm?638. so you can monitor the RPM and still hook it upto the PSU

Nice! That would do it for sure. I may get one of those myself for my 7500RPM cpu fan. I wonder if Fry's carries anything similar? I hate to ship something that only costs $3. I suppose I could get a few extras or shop around for something else to add to the shopping cart.

dbmaven posted that link a while ago, I still haven't ordered one yet. I never have seen anything like that in Fry's.

I'm gonna give it a try. I'll make one of those adapters to get my power from a 4 pin and still have RPM monitoring. If this thing is a dog I'll just return it. I saw a 80mm to 60mm adapter on Coolerguys but it was $12 for a piece of plastic. That's a little more than the price of the Delta fan. I don't need a huge drop in temp. and this fan should double my cfm's. I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks,
John

I have a 60MM delta fan that I just hate ... if you want we could trade IM me if your interested. I could send mine first so you wouldn't have to put your computer to rest while waiting if you want too.

Which Delta fan is it that you hate so much?

Not sure. I think its the older 7000RPM one, I'll check the model number when I get home though.

A 8000rpm delta fan will sound like a boeing 747. As some suggested you should get a 80mm to 60mm adapter and a nice 80mm fan. Panaflo (if you can find them since they're always sold out) has some nice 80mm fans, 48-58cfm at around 38-40 decibels. I ended up getting a $5 sunon 80mm, 2900rpm-40cfm-32db. Should be a nice replacement for my current 60mm, 7000rpm-36cfm-40+db once my adapter arrives.
