Your System - January/February 2011

Post your system specs if you've built/bought a new system during the month of January/February.

If you've changed your system, put "ADDED" next to the new component(s).

If you haven't changed anything - don't post!

Re: Your System - January 2011

4 used Boxx 1U Servers (bought 'em on eBay for less than $150 shipped).

Specs are:
Boxx #1
2x Xeon 2.4GHz 533MHz Processors
1GB PC-2100 ECC Registered DDR RAM
*ADDED*
3ware 9500-4LP 4 Port SATA RAID Card
4x 2TB Seagate Barracuda LP 5900RPM Hard Drives (RAID5) - FW CC35

Boxx #2
2x Xeon 2.4GHz 533MHz Processors
1GB PC-2100 ECC Registered DDR RAM
*ADDED*
3ware 9500-4LP 4 Port SATA RAID Card
4x 1.5TB Western Digital WD15EARS 5400RPM Hard Drives (RAID5) - Disabled LCC

The other 2 are on standby until I can get more HDDs. I think I spent less than $700 on 'em so far. I know these aren't "new" systems, but they're rather new to me (especially the disk space).

Finally pulled the trigger on a video card upgrade...

Asus P7P55D-E Pro
Intel i7-860 @ 3.5 GHz
2x2GB g.skill ddr3-1600 cl7
*ADDED Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB
*REMOVED Asus Radeon HD 4870 512MB
2x1TB Seagate 7200.12
250GB Seagate
Hauppage HVR-1250
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
Corsair TX 750W
CM HAF 932

Considered getting a 6950 and flashing it to 6970, in the end I decided to treat myself to less hassle and also the heavier PCB/power connections and higher-rated memory that come with the real 6970 (reviews are showing 6 gbps-rated chips on 6970s and 5 gbps-rated chips on 6950s).

Here's my most recent build.

- Core i7 970 @4.33GHz
- Asus Rampage 3 Formula mobo
- Corsair H70
- Corsair Dominator-GT 6GB DDR3 RAM
- Corsair Obsidian 800D case
- Corsair HX1000W
- Intel X25-M SSD 160GB G2
- 3x EVGA GTX470 Tri-SLI

In the process of stepping up to GTX570 with EVGA (the new cards are coming). Other than that I'm just waiting on an Ivy Bridge.

Niice setup.. Wish my wife would let me build something like that without putting me in a "hurt locker".

Oh ya.. I got the 3rd BOXX server up.. with 4x 2TB WD20EARS drives as a RAID5 (of course) with LCC disabled on a 3ware 9500-4LP PCI-X Card.

That brings me to a total of.. 15TB of usable space. *grin* That's not including the 12x 640GB drives I just ordered (building a 1.79TB caching proxy with 4 of these in a modified Poweredge 2550 in case the MP/RIAA have their way).

Heh, thanks and that "hurt locker" gave me a chuckle. Wish I had that 15TB of usable space tho. =D

Replaced Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L with Asus P8H67-M EVO
Replaced Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with Intel Core i7 2600K
Replaced the Nvidia 8500 with the GT2 Processor Graphics in the 2600K
Replaced 4GB DDR2-800 with 8GB DDR3-1333
Intel 160GB SSD x25
WD 500 GB SATA (documents/music)
WD 1TB SATA (Pictures)
Replaced Lite-on DVD writer (having issues) with Asus DVD Writer
Sceptre 22" 16x10
Dell 17" 12x10

Build will happen sometime this week - gotta clean off my desk enough to get to everything

Before I get any comments about buying the K part and putting it on an H motherboard, I *want* the Processor Graphics, so the K has HD3000 instead of HD2000. Plus, the EPP pricing was hard to turn down Since Sandy Bridge Graphics drivers are my program (well, validation of them) - it better work, huh?

That thing's HUGE!!
Click for full size
One inch.. Just one inch.
Updates.

I'm building 2 systems, actually. One's my main system and the other's a HTPC. Here's how it's going:

Upgraded: GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard to a P55-UD3 (old board is in a Zalman HD503 HTPC Case)
Upgraded: Pentium E5200 @ 3.75GHz to a Core i7-870 @ 4.1GHz (old processor is in the Zalman case, too)
Upgraded: GeIL 2x2GB DDR2-1000 to Patriot 4x4GB DDR3-1333 (same with the memory)
Upgraded: 2x500GB WD SATA to 2x1TB Hitachi 7200RPM SATA
Upgraded: ThermalTake Frio for each system (see problem below for HTPC)

Well, everything was going great.. Until.. The darn HSF is an inch too tall for the HTPC case. Well, crap. Looks like I have to find one that's 1 (or 2) shorter (enter the realm of "You've got to be sh*tting me").

Re: Your System - January/February 2011

My build....

Phenom II 1090T
GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5
Corsair H70 (lazy, but do have a better cooling set up in the works)
8 Gig RAM
Corsair 120GB SSD
Corsair 1000W PS (overkill I know, but future proofed too).
XFX HD6870 Video card

All of this in a HAF932 case, One Blueray, and one DVD drive, 1 TB hardrive and 2 500 GB drives that I had laying around.

Nor quite done, I'll try to post pics when I get a bit further along.

Since I can't edit my post...

One HDD failed with 85 Uncorrectable Errors and 1009 Multi-Zone Errors in SMART. I RMA'd the drive and hopefully get a new one back from Newegg soon. The other 3 are perfect.

I will definitely say this.. Redundancy is your friend!! Otherwise, I would've lost a couple TBs worth of files.
