Atlantic Broaband MegaMax 16mb service

I made a call to ABB Monday inquiring about the HDTV packages, and got off track talking about the HSI service.
The Rep told me that ABB is supposed to be offering the MegaMac HSI 16mb in March here in Aiken, South Carolina.

Has anybody else heard anything about this? If this is true, what would it cost for the 16mb MegaMax?

This could be potentially part of the upcoming speed increases we have been hearing about for a few weeks now.

Did you happen to hear what the upstream speeds will be?

Also, what is your current max speed down there?

In Central PA, It's 8Mbps down, 512Kbps up. I was wondering if your speeds were like this or closer to those of ABB down in the Miami area (its like 12Mbps/768Kbps down there)

WOW! Just got a message saying that it is true, starting March 1st in most areas, MegaMax HSI will be rolling out.

Speed will be 15mb down 1.5mb up.

No word on the pricing.

Awesome.

What kind of message did you get?

I have heard nothing and seen nothing so far in my market.

I'm not sure about pricing, we are currently redoing packages to add this new feature, but I can confirm we're getting the MegaMax, starting March 1st. Not sure about pricing, but speeds will be about 15Mb down and 1.5 up. In some areas, download may be a little higher, but I can't say yet for sure at this point. Will post more details as I have them!

When you say redoing...

Does that mean the other tiers will increase as well?

If so, do you know what the other packages will be?

Additionally:

Do you know when/if this will be available here in Johnstown?

And also, what are the business tiers going to change to?

Good luck to anyone with this in the Johnstown area, unless some major things happened to their network/equipment, I doubt this will be 15Mbit all the time.

I'm glad I moved to a different area with comcast docsis 3.0. You can't even compare the two services.

Let down by ABB again. Yes, they are offering MegaMax HSI - but at a whopping 10mb down, a whole 2mb faster than their Max tier. Which means the true speed will be at or right above the 6mb DSL I am currently getting.

Seriously!!??

Ugh, what's the upload speed at?

EDIT: this is now available for most people.

I just ordered it myself.

I literally was on the phone for less than 5 minutes (including the wait).

Thanks ABB!

$54.99 here in Johnstown, PA (there's an AtlanticBB office here)

I'm seeing speeds of 15-16Mbit down, and 1.4-1.6Mbit up

Happy so far, but we'll see if this lasts.

Also, here's all of the tiers available for Johnstown, PA

MegaMax ($54.99)
15Mbps/1.5Mbps

Max ($48.95-59.95)
10Mbps/1.0Mbps

Preferred ($38.95-$49.95)
5Mbps/768Kbps

Starter ($26.95 - $33.95)
1.0Mbps/512Kbps

I'm curious how long it will run that fast.

also what part of johnstown are you in? I was in Geistown/Richland area, super overloaded node and it would routinely run slower than advertised.

not sure if they changed things, but one thing they did was setup the configuration files so that the 'max' you could get is 8000bits, well once you add overhead, etc, the highest you would do is 7.6Mbit, which is less than '8Mbit' service.

surprised you're seeing 15Mbit, that's all.

I'm in the West End area. Speeds here have been mostly consistent, some minimal afternoon/evening drops, but nothing major.

Yeah, I'm amazed that I'm seeing over the advertised 15/1.5 to speeds around 16/1.6 to be honest.

It appears that they finally are accounting for overhead

... and at only ~$6 more than the Max service, the upgrade is well worth it.

WOW! Thats just crazy!

I swear earlier today it was listed at 10mb/1mb

Thanks for pointing it out. LOL!

good deal, I'm glad they finally got their act together. I'd have upgraded but I moved to Ligonier. Got comcast 22/5 business. Not even on the same page.
