Re: Java display corruption... I must say Dustyn, that's one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. (Well, when it comes to computers, that is). Hopefully, you're on the right track with particular video drivers causing the problem, but it's so strange that it seems to be effecting only the Java Control Panel applet, and also that other apps which require Java will "blur over time". (No other applications ever appear "blurred" like that?) Just REALLY strange. I'm sorry I have nothing to offer at this time, but I sure would like to know what's causing it when you figure it out. (I'll try looking into it as well). Weird!
(Edit) Here's one link I found...(although you've probably already seen it in your searching...and it deals with an older version of java). But still, it was video drivers causing the problem. »www.java.com/en/download/help/bl···onts.xml
Perhaps updating the video drivers (if they aren't already the latest), or rolling back to an older version of java (or the drivers, for that matter), just to see whats going on? Heck, I don't know at the moment.
But I do know know that I'm up to 4 edits, so I'm required to add the following: Editsalajabarnut |

Display driver and display driver "settings" are cross-linked possibilities that are turning up in my searches. It seems (according to other postings) that when Java starts it can initialize certain video driver settings like "anti aliasing" which can muck up text and blur video in any Java application. I'm not at this affected PC right now, but since a lot of my ATi Catalyst driver settings have been changed from defaults to customized settings, I'm going to try changing everything back to Catalyst factory video defaults to see if it will correct this issue. I'm currently running Catalyst 11.2 and my video card is an ATi Radeon XFX HD 6950. EDIT: Also, only Java based applications are affected. Not the desktop, videos, flash or silverlight... only Java apps. -- Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? jabarnutLight Years AwayPremium,MVM join:2005-01-22 Galaxy M31 kudos:2 | Just curious Dustyn...when did you first notice this? Did it just start out of the blue? Was it after updating to Catalyst 11.2? Or right after updating to a newer version of Java? Or, right after you "tweaked" some of the settings in the Catalyst control center? After changing the video card itself? I suppose if you knew that, you'd know how to fix it as well. Just thinking out loud, I suppose.
That's probably a good idea to try changing the Driver settings back to defaults though. Sure is a strange one. Let us know how you make out. -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

That's probably a good idea to try changing the Driver settings back to defaults though. Sure is a strange one. Let us know how you make out. I can not remember when this occurred. I just noticed after a period of time (about 6 - 8 months) that Java started displaying oddly at times. But it was bearable and still usable. Obviously it got to the point where this is no longer the case. I think... it occurred after I updated my video drivers, then tweaked them out enabling the option "Morphological filtering". When it's enabled, I get blurry distorted Java apps. When it's disabled, Java works perfectly! I restored Catalyst to factory defaults and there is no more display corruption in any Java applet. Great! So, I then re-tweaked my Catalyst settings and tried the "Morphological filtering" option... with other options mixed: use application settings + standard filter. Same result... blurry distorted displays of Java apps. Although not tested extensively... I will post back if my solution that fixed this issue changes... -- Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? Looks like it's fixed now with the setting I'm using in the last screenshot. I can also use "Enhance application settings" mode without any issue shown in green box. FrostWire displays flawlessly now along with any other Java app. I still find it odd that Java would trigger and use these 3D settings? -- Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? | I sure discounted video display as any source of the issue, though when I saw that second screenshot the first thing that popped into my head was that it looked exactly like something you might see when there's a problem with a media player rendering a video file.
said by Dustyn:I still find it odd that Java would trigger and use these 3D settings? And it does seem somewhat odd. On the other hand, video card drivers are used for "display" as well as actual video, and apparently the Java Contol Panel prefers to 'display' in a specific fashion, with 'morphological filtering' not fitting its bill.
A nice little piece of knowledge to have. Thank you. |

DustynPremium join:2003-02-26 Ontario, CAN kudos:10 | There are users also complaining about Firefox being all blurry with hardware acceleration enabled in conjunction with morphological filtering enabled. |

 | I don't have Firefox installed so I woudn't know abnout that because I use Internet Explorer 9. My guess would be to disable morphological filtering and see if that work's. |
