Re: Your System -May/June 2011 RAM 4GB vs 2GB sticks | The guts (the entrails are crammed under the drives) | The skin |
Built an HTPC system to drive my new TV (Panasonic 55" VT30) when it gets here. I think I went a little overboard, spent almost $1k LOL. Also took the opportunity to upgrade the RAM in my desktop at the same time, put a new 8GB pair in it and moved its 4GB to the new unit.
HTPC Case: IN WIN BL631 MicroATX Slim Mobo: ASRock Z68 Pro3-M CPU: Intel i5-2300 @ 3.5 GHz (stock cooler for now, might get something better/quieter) RAM: G-Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3-1600 CL7 (from desktop) Boot Drive: OCZ Vertex 2 120GB Optical: LG BH12LS35 Blu-ray Writer Tuner: Hauppauge HVR-1250 (soon when I take it from the desktop) Keyboard: Logitech K800 (for now) Mouse: Logitech VX Revolution (for now)
Wow is all can say about the K800, it might be too good for the HTPC. I may get a cheaper MK520 combo for the HTPC and move the K800 to the desktop (the UltraX that it has, which I still love is corded so will be a bit clumsy for gaming on the TV).
Also wow for the SSD, boot time is about 5 seconds! When I'm up for it the the desktop is definitely going to get a 240GB Vertex 3... |

| Nice. Did you combine the Crucial 64 GB m4 + 1TB Samsung F3 that the Z68 supports? Besides the 8sec boot, how about the rest of story (apps/games)?
This is essentially what I plan on building - except: >120GB SSD boot; 64GB SSD + xxx HDD data; 16GB RAM -- That's "MISTER" Kafir to you. |
