Xoom and linux

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me out. I recently purchased a xoom that I am trying to connect to my ubuntu computer. When I connect it nothing shows up in ubuntu but I can see it in dmesg. I called motorola and they said that it is not like regular usb, and that it uses the mtp protocol which requires me to configure an ip address on the usb port. Can you please tell me how to do that on the usb port of the xoom? I can't find the information on this anywhere. Many thanks!

Don't have a specific answer to your direct connection question, but I have a work around, if I can be helpful.

If you are just looking to move files between your Xoom, and ubuntu PC, I'd suggest using Dropbox. Of course, you may be wanting to direct connect for other reasons, but for just moving files this is the easiest way, even with a Windows PC. Just keep in mind that Dropbox is not secure, but for non sensitive stuff like music, and video it works great.

This is my referral link, if you don't already have an account.
