Agree'd, if they force me out of my unlimited data on my new Thunderbolt I'll be gone from VZW and most likely going with Sprint, I think Sprint roams on VZW's network right?

Torrance, CA | I just got an Inspire phone through ATT, got the 2 gig data plan, which isn't much, but between the wifi, and pass through internet option ( kind of like tethering ) don't use much of the wireless other than calls. this country sucks when it comes to wireless.

I left AT&T for their nonsense. If this is happening with VW then yes I'll go to Sprint too and if they do it I'll just go to a simple prepaid burn phone and say the heck with it all. I kept my land line for a reason. I saw them ALL getting stupid. |

Yes they can roam on Verizon network but it is limited to 300MB a month. |

Agreed. Everyone that has unlimited now will be grandfathered. Though, at some point, they'll figure out a way to get you un-grandfathered.
Should that point come, I'll just get a plain ole no-data-at-all-phone.
It's like my 3G data card. Grandfathered in to the unlimited plan. They'll have to pry that account from my cold, dead hands. And if they do, I'll just turn it off. |

Excuse me, I am wrong I think.
Sprint Smartphones should have unlimited data roaming - I checked my data usage on sprint.com and it says Unlimited on Data Roaming part.
So the tethering plans has the 300MB data roaming limitation. |

| Sprint will need to capitalize on this as it's really the only way they can differentiate from the big 2. Sprint simply must keep the unlimited data option to remain relevant.
Even so, for those who would be roaming full time with Sprint, you shouldn't use them as voice minutes do have roaming limits. I travel a great deal and roam on Sprint at times in small towns/rural areas but haven't even come close to the roaming (voice) limits. Even if they eventually have roaming data limits, is not an issue as long as you live/work in Sprint coverage. |

I refer to that as a dumb phone, wink wink, was thinking of doing that my self. When the $hit hits the fan with these unrealistic caps, maybe just maybe they will get the point. not holding breath

I wouldn't be so sure about the grandfathering. I just received an email from verizon about my account that says that they made a mistake with the original contract and it appears that they are trying to change the contract terms mid-stream. It will be interesting to see where this shim sham ploy will go!!!!!!!!!!! |

I dunno. I would venture a guess that when my Thunderbolt craps out and I get, say, a Thunderbolt 2 that unlimited plan would transfer. Unless they do something like "get a hotspot, lose your unlimited plan" like AT&T does.
If I were to switch my 3G data card to a 4G card, then I get capped. The lady at the VZW store agreed with me that it'd be nuts to give up that plan I've got. |

I have unlimited data right now, but will that change if I have to extend my contract another 2 years if I want to get the Samsung Galaxy S II, or will they keep me grandfathered in?

You'd probably get a refurb Thunderbolt. But what I am saying is, if you want to upgrade to a phone like uh Thunderbolt 2, it's likely you'd have to change to new data plan. If you keep your Thunderbolt for 5 years, you'll keep that unlimited plan.
That's how Sprint is doing with their $10 increase on data plan. My Samsung Moment is $30/mo until I upgrade to a new phone then I'll get $40/mo unlimited plan. |

Now, if you change anything to do with your data plan, then that changes your contract.

Any change to a contract in the past is always considered to be a breech and you can opt out at that time for no penalty. Read up on the contract you signed through Verizon. Any change to the data portion is a change to your contract. Which is why Verizon will grandfather users in. All new contracts signed will be hit with the new structure. This is fine because not many people will hang around on the same contract. Some people will jump providers or drop data use.
