@qwest.net

qwest, linux, windows live

Due to a misunderstanding i ended up with a free live.com address instead of a premium msn live.com address since i signed up with qwest, more than a year ago. However, they gave me support for that. Lately, a lot of trouble, including a week with no smtp server the a few more days with no port 25 on the smtp server, only 587 which for empathy and Outlook express was taking more than 15 seconds just to sign in.

When i first added my msn account into empathy (the client that came with Ubuntu) it picked up a bunch of old, deleted contacts, some more than half year old and lots of current duplicates. I cannot see them in Windows Live Messenger, Mail or hotmail web page.

Qwest says now that they don't support Linux but they gave my a rare msn phone support number (800 386 5550), but they also say they don't support Linux, as well as in an email reply from them. Nobody supports Linux?

Ok nobody supports Linux but from where in the world is empathy picking those contacts since i installed Linux on a wiped partition and i cannot find anywhere on my Windows partition an old or newer contact list. And i don't think empathy opens old contact lists from unmounted ntfs partitions. Very unlikely.

However, last time when i talked to MSN they acted like i wanted to restore old deleted contacts and they directed me to undelete those, however, the ones picked by empathy are not among those either, being older. Please help?

This is not a Qwest issue. Post your question to the All Things Unix forum.

I know quite a bit about the Qwest/MSN issue, however I cannot decrypt your question from your post. What would you like to do at this point, and how can I help?

Yes it is. Qwest does not give any support to Linux users. Period. Until the end of the month, from what i know, i still have free support for my live.com address. The undeletable contacts visible only under Linux/Empathy are in the live.com account. How can i put it more clearly?

I was hoping for an answer like: no, it can not be, they cannot discriminate against Linux users... They are 10% of all users from what i know...

It's not possible for me to provide an answer like that, because I don't even know what the question actually is. I think I know what's going on here, and I think your thinking is way off. I'm not going to provide an answer based on my assumption of what the question is. You need to clarify.
