Macro shots of a micro journey

Short hike today through Whiting. Did a little tinkering with extension tubes.

Met a couple of young ladies who were new to the area and pointed out some of the sights, including some bee colonies.

The one in this sycamore is new.

I have never seen a wild hive out in the open like this. I wish there was something other than the bees to give you an idea of how large it was.

For those of us who are photography techo-paupers, what is an extension tube?

A cheap way to turn a normal lens into a close focus one. By moving the lens away from the body, you change the minimum focus distance. The set I got consists of three tubes that can be alone or in combination. They also have electrical connections for coupling the lens info to the camera.

it's basically just a cylinder blank between the camera body and the lens.
