The CWA won't agree with Sprint, because Sprint doesn't employ CWA workers. AT&T does.
THAT'S why they're supporting AT&T in the merger. They're figuring it's better to lose jobs from the company that employs them than agree with a company that doesn't.
There was a third option. Keep their yaps shut. Shoulda taken that path.
karl makes it sound like the CWA won't even lose any jobs in the AT&T deal. They'll actually add 20k T-mobile employees into the union. Probably at least a net positive for them overall.
