Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

We get these all the time because we host and own so many domain names. We had a couple of faxes as well which look official, please fill in your information her and fax it for renewal etc...

At the end of the day, we know that Register.com is our registrar and that anyone else out there sending us mail is just trying to make a buck from people that panic.

I got three of those mailers last month. I just rolled my eyes and ignored them. From work, I'm already used to getting offers disguised as bills, or calls checking shipping information for orders I never placed.

DRA must be counting (hard) on folks not paying attention.

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

You know, I read all these posts, and I feel all your guys are in the business, and thats why you are throwing all the negative publicity towards competition in the field.

Whats the worst you guys can do by switching to this DRoA company anyway?

Most likely, the every day person will save money renewing with them, as their rates are generally lower than the big 3's.

You say they are annoying and that the mailouts are being misinterpreted, well, I've got news for you, NSI and Register.com have done worse to me in charging me rediculous rates in the past. Not to mention their sub-par customer service.

Why don't you people visit the ICANN forum and see who is really getting the most complaints? Its not DRoA, its NSI.

In case you've never been there, the forum is here: »forum.icann.org/regxfer/

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

Competition is good. Deception is bad. I get calls from my clients asking "why am I getting this *bill* from DRoA?" "Why do I have to pay more?" DRoA's marketing tactics are deceptive in my opinion. That comes across to me as a company that is desperate and willing to do anything to get into your pocket. Show's me their focus is on the bottom line and not the customer. That's why I won't switch. Why doesn't DRoA use that same ink and paper to tells us why their services are better, more affordable and how their support is better than all others?? If they used that approach instead of sending me something that makes it appear I owe them money, I would consider using their services. First impressions are everything. DRoA did not do a good job with me.

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

You've got a point there.

I'm convinced though that their bottom line is the customer.

I did renew several domains with their canadian counterpart, and believe me, if DRoA are anything like the canadian office, customers should give them a chance.

If they hadn't sent me the notice in the mail, I'd still be paying NSI $35 USD a year. NSI never would have taken the time to mail me (first class) to give me such a low price offer.

In case you missed the point of this thread.. I don't want to be SPAMed for business or private reasons. I don't care about competition, I welcome it. But don't send me email or mail at home when I don't ask for it.

They've been doing this for a couple of years by my receipt of them. Know thy registrar, and tear up anything come from any others.

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

I don't remember if they came first to commercial or personal registered accounts (domain registrar accounts) in my case but I suspect it was for the commercial domains. My commercial NSI registered account info brings in floods of postal spam. The registrars haven't really dealt with any of this by updating an old system that broadcasts your information to anyone who wants it for whatever reason.

I get these in the mail all the time too AND the e-mails. It's very confusing for some people, because they do look like bills. I sent them an e-mail asking them to stop sending the unsolicited e-mails and telling them nobody requested the transfers. They were actually very nice in their response and apologized. Go figure. For that domain at least... As for the snail mail versions, they keep coming.

Add me to the list...only it wasn't for a currently registered domain, but a solicitation for a .info TLD registration. It came via fax and looked quite pretty with all the tiny "legal type" all over.

Whatever.

I've gotten these via email too...cracks me up.

I file them the same place I file other UCE...even though they claim:

"This is not unsolicited commercial email"

Whatever...
