I've also been sent the new firmware and it works well. Tracert now works, DHCP drop is no longer and issue for me(as of yet) but im still looking for other testers to try out an msn file transfer at different mtu settings.

MSN doesnt d/c anymore either (as of yet). I've only had it a coupla days now.

There isnt any visual changes to the f/w from 1.42.3. It just seems that linksys have ironed out the bugs and made this f/w into the next 1.40.2

Throughput with this firmware seems positive too. I still would recommend that you wait till it is publically released to try out the firmware though.

See how it goes.

That's funny, because, I just unzipped it using Windows XP internal zip extractor thing.

oops, I take it back, it does work
I was trying to access the newsgroup through the web interface and all the times it said the zip files was corrupted.
Using a newsgroup reader fixed the problem.

Change log is not included.
I'm a bit afraid of trying it though but the traceroute fix is tempting

Sorry forgot to add to previous post, the file transfer does work at 1500 if you want your mtu at 1500 for LAN performance.

So far its very good imo

So far i haven't had any connection drops, im planning on leaving my pc idle for a bit running MSN and IRC seeing how it goes, i expect MSN will d/c because the issues are mainly to do with an error on the .net servers which MS admitted too. If the lease stays and IRC stays connected without a software abort error then it will look as thought things are fixed.

I'll let you know what happens.

Sounds good, I am also running it now, and have not noted any major or minor problems, I will keep an eye open and report anything unusual.

I had the same problem. I solved it by accessing the newsgroup via OE.
Anyway, I'm mirroring the file here
»web.tiscali.it/Peroni/befsr-fw1424.zip

Copy and paste the address in a new browser window or it might not work.
The filesize is about 350KB

I too had the same problem. Thanks for mirroring the firmware. About time someone did this. I went through Outlook, but it couldn't get the actual first post by Gecko. It got the rest of the thread, but no the actual first one.

Leaked firmware? Not on website? No beta testers this time?

Sounds like Linksys is playing nVidia's game -- leak soem drivers into circulation, follow online user reaction, then decide to modify or release to the public.

If this is a final release, it doesnt take that much effort to put it up on their website. ANd since barb at MS Newgroup starting spreading the word yesterday; still no new firmware on Linksys webiste

Sounds like a new way to beta test with an eager public maybe?

Has anyone ehard for sure when they will be available for public release?

I noticed a couple of things after applying the new firmware:

1) UPNP was turned back on (I had it off)
2) PPTP passthru was turned off (I had it on)

Also:

1)Tracert works now.
2)The built-in web server is still as slow as the last version.
3) UPNP still seems flaky
