Eventually everyone will have one

When looking into what's available in the HDTV front, practically all of them now include 3D functionality, though many don't actually include the glasses.

So people as people buy HDTVs they'll end up with 3DTVs, by default even if they can't actually watch any 3D content.

Personally I think 3DTVs are better for gaming than for TV watching. I don't have one though so this is just my gut feeling.

Exactly, when I bought my TV last year, I got the Panasonic ST-30 46" because I liked the IB2 Panel and the 3D functionality was built in, I have no use for it. I play a game once in a while on the PS3 that is in 3D but the glasses are so expensive and the experience is such a gimmick that I don't even bother.

I do not know if this is true, but would seem to make sense, but most 3D image processors requite more ability and actually render regular 2D slightly better.

Unfortunately I had to replace my TV about a year to early for 3D. Not that my set is a bad but when I visit my folks and watch their 3D set I really wish I had waited a bit (not that I had much of a choice as my TV had died.)

Theirs is a Passive set. Same glasses as in the theater. Family just brings the glasses home after going to the movies and they now have about 20 odd pair so no worries if something happens to a pair, they are already lightweight and designed to fit over glasses, no having to charge them or keep them in sync with the TV and no extra cost beyond what we were already paying at the theater anyway.

Now coupled with my 3D phone which doubles as a 3D camera and 3D video camera we can create our own content in addition to what they get through DirecTV, YouTube 3D, 3D streaming and on 3D Blu-Ray.

When anyone in the family buys a movie now we buy the 3D pack with the 3D version going to my folks and the Blu-Ray going to one of the rest of us which has built up the 3D collection quite quickly it works out nicely. There is a fair amount of content for 3D already, seemingly more than there was for HDTV at the same point in its development, people tend to forget how little was available for HD early on and what a wasteful and expensive gimmick it was seen as at the time that was being forced upon us.

Its still a gimmick for most, I tried the whole Evo 3D thing and that definitely was a gimmick at best.

So no new HDTVs sell without 3D for cheaper prices?
