Re: Cupcake Deemed 'Security Threat,' Confiscated By TSA I'm not buying this 'gel-like' explanation. I'd say cake frosting was more like an emulsion than a gel. Or maybe it's a 'sol' (a new word to me).

How consistent are its readings? How accurate is it? Can it accurately differentiate between a gel and an emulsion?
So many questions, so little time.
Has it been tested on John Pistole and Janet Napolitano and will they certify under oath that they have approved use of this device? -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

Wow! A red velvet cupcake in a jar! No wonder it was confiscated - someone was hungry! |

I was about to write a short diatribe about how the mainstream media (that's MSM to you lusers) was once again filtering our news to avoid any mention of the TSA's venture into cupcake screening when I came across an article which explains the whole thing.
See »www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43584213/ns···Lf8b8nLQ if you think I'm kidding!
British newspapers reported earlier this month that the the UK government hacked into an al-Qaida website last year and inserted recipes for making cupcakes in place of instructions on how to build bombs. The target was the group's English language magazine, "Inspire," intended for Muslims in the West. The magazine is the product of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen. This is a serious breach of security. What if he then touches 'other people's stuff' with those same hands? Thousands of people could conceivably have been exposed to anthrax.
I demand an immediate ban on all pastries within the Secure Area at all airports. Can you tell the difference between anthrax powder and confectioners' sugar? (Obviously, they are not doing 'taste testing'.) -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| the OSS was way ahead of everyone on the edible explosives thing which was demonstrated on a science show not too long ago. this is not that show, but it does discuss the "Aunt Jemima":

The screener in question probably watched that show however; explaining the overreaction perhaps? -- Returnil - 21st Century body armor for your PC |

davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:8 | reply to Sparrow I hadn't realised until now that the cupcake was in a glass jar - that's a little unusual for bakery products, so I can understand why it attracted the attention of the TSA in the first place. The conclusion seems a little strained, though. |
