2Wire won't talk to Linksys E4200

Based on recommendations from ATT Tech and Geek Squad, I purchased a Linksys E4200 router to remove the burden on my 2Wire. We're running 2 wired PC, 4 laptop, 2 Xbox 360 (1 old and 1 new) that run Halo, Battlefield 3, Black Ops type of games - usually at the same time. We also stream a good amount of Netflix, have a tablet, netbook and other handheld items that may or may not be connected at any time.

I had ATT walk me through bridging my 2701HG-B 2Wire and then went through the Linksys installation disk. 6 hours later, after 3 calls to ATT and I don't remember how many to Linksys, the 2Wire never transmitted it's IP address to the new router. At that point Linksys threw in the towel and said ATT had to fix it. ATT says there is nothing wrong with the router. We've unbridged it and I'm surfing horrendously slowly.

Is there a trick to getting the 2Wire to talk to the Linksys? Should I just return the Linksys and try an ATT Business Router (which the tech doubted would withstand our abuse)? Is there any reasonable solution for us? I feel like beating my head against the wall.

Thanks for your help.

Can you describe the changes you made to the 2wire to put it in bridge mode

I disabled the ATM PVC Search, set the ATM Circuit Identifier values to 0 for the VPI and 35 for the VCI, Set Connection Type to Direct IP. Then under Advanced - Configure Services, I unchecked Enable Routing.

Ok you've made the correct changes to the 2wire......except for the vpi/vci may not be correct....your location indicates that you are in the att bellsouth region is this true?

How is the e4200 configured, you should avoid using the linksys setup disk

Yes, I am in bellsouth's area. The ATT rep told me to make the VPI 0 but the link she sent said to set it at 8. It was set at 0.

As far as the E4200...I don't even know anymore. My phone time with them was 4 hours and I spoke to at least 7 people. I changed so much so many times. I remember cloneing the MAC, changing to PPPoE, entering ATT user name and password. They had me change the router IP address a couple times...to different things. This probably isn't much help!

The vpi/vci must be 8/35 because that's what is used in the belsouth region

On the e4200 make sure the internet connection type is pppoe
And the e4200 has your pppoe user name and network password

I wonder if the entire problem could have been that VPI was 0 instead of 8?

It very well could be.......the bellsouth 2wires have the vpi/vci factory preset to 8/35

There are other ways to setup the linksys and 2wire "to remove the burden on the 2Wire"
