Re: Too little too late

A little correction.... Medal Of Honor is not going to be an Xbox exclusive... They are releasing it on PS2 as well.

Yes there's a ps-3 in development...............And as far as some people thinking that ps-2 is obsolete i guess it is just like my 4-mth old 1.7 gig amd/athlon with 512 ddr ram is considered old with the 2.2gig 2gig ram puters available now! common sense (and tech. reviews)tell ya that when a sys. (puter ,gaming or most technology) hits the stores it.s out dated!Dude if you like ps-2 get it...........dont listen to people that say its inferior.....because it's not.I have games from my reg. ps (over 200) that my kid's still play on the ps-2.There was less then .05% of games manf. (well over 1800) that couldnt play on the new sys. Also sony said ps-3 will be backwards compatiable just like ps-2 is.As far as the "whiners" who say look what happened to nintendo....... the whole reason i bought p.s. was because everytime they develop a gaming sys. ya have to trash $50+ games and start over.not to mention the fact that most if not all the games are geared toward kids (mine never played n/64 that the ex bought um so i traded it in for used games for the ps-2).In fairness to x-box Halo is an awsome game as well as the new driving game (cant remember name) but 2-3 or even 20 games isn't gonna make me go out and buy a bill gates product.I highly rec'd ps-2 as an option. BTW........you know how many manf. that were slated to create games for x-box backed out? PLENTY.......not because x-box stinks........its because sony sells more games period!! and they like profits last time i heard.

I'm a PS2 owner. Sony made smart moves during the 2001 holiday season -- they upped their third party game output. Every time I see an ad now for a game that looks half-way decent it always seems to have a PS2 at the bottom of the page. Aside from Halo, I haven't seen a game that truly peeks my interest on the XBox, aside from a solid football game, if one exists on the XB (but PS2's Madden 2001 is still the best ever in my opinion, 2002 had too many flaws).

The point is, PS2 has given us some truly great games in the past 6 to 12 months. And I personally know 3 people who went out and bought a PS2 just because they played GTA3 for 10 minutes. Metal Gear Solid 2 is another system seller. I'm not a big racing fan, but from what I've seen and heard PS2 has some of the best racing games ever made. I guess I can't give an honest opinion on the XB, only to say that from what I've seen it doesn't seem to have much in the way of Killer App games available.
I have both PS2 and XBox and I agree, there are limited titles for Xbox...for now. But there were for PS2 6 months after launch. I remember waiting and waiting for GT3 and Metal Gear Solid. MGS is going to be ported to XBox so it'll no longer be a PS2 exclusive. BTW, NFL Fever for XBox smokes Madden on PS2. Coming soon is a slew of 1st person shooters for XBox including Ghost Recon which will smoke MGS. Also Medal of Honor, Lord of the Rings, and the new Star Wars RPG. Lord of the Rings and MoH are both XBox exclusives. For racing, Sega is releasing Sega GT (not quite as good at GT3 but still pretty good). It takes time to develop a "signature" game like GT but it'll happen, if it already hasn't from Halo.

Yep, and everyone said dreamcast was going to blow away PS1. Admittedly it was a more powerful console and had better games, but which prevailed because of popularity, not potential?
Who said that? Sega never toppled anyone. Even the success of Genesis was short lived. Popularity and 100% HW support is what will drive XBox+PC gaming to levels that Sony could ever dream of.

X-Box is just a striped down PC, in which I would rather have full blown PC that can do other things than play games. Competition is good; besides everything will be integrated in the new future, so arguing now which console is better is pointless.
The thing is it comes at a stripped down price. GeForce3 equipped at $300, cheaper than PS2 with BB. Not everyone has $1,500 to drop building a PC.

Kunitake Ando on the XBox and PS3

Even the President of Sony acknowledged that the XBox has shorted the projected live span of PS2. I have DC, PS2 and XBox and XBox is so much better...programmable shaders don't lie. All of the major publishers are committed to XBox prog development which means the games will get better and better. PS2's days are numbered.
On what do you base this information? I'm actually very interested in buying a console system since the N64 seems completely dead. I usually wait until systems are utterly exhausted before I purchase a new one and now's the time. One year from now, which system will still be pumping out the titles? The PS2 or the XBox. Also, pardon my ignorance, but what's the deal with the PS3? Is it actually in development or just a prototype?
I based this on a quote from the Sony president.

"In a recent interview with The Financial Times, Kunitake Ando, president and CEO of Sony, said that the Microsoft Xbox, which comes with a hard drive and Ethernet adapter out of the box, could force the company to transition to the PS3 earlier than intended.
"The biggest threat to the PlayStation 2 is that the Xbox changes the industry's life cycle," said Ando, who feels that it is unclear whether the current PS2 business model is sustainable and that its console life cycle could be reduced to three years as a result."

Playstation 2 is popular, but it's not going to kill off XBox, so to answer your question both will be. I think PS2 will remain more arcade based while XBox will move into that arena dominated by PC's, like 1st person shooters and online gaming. But all the publishers are writing for both. Even Sony has acknowledged that cash strapped Squaresoft may port Final Fantasy XI to Xbox.

Check the sales figures for x-mas this past year............you know the one x-box was supposed to dominate!Sony has built a loyal following and thats why the external perp. WILL sell...............x-box is more powerful but size (heh...heh) doesn't always matter!
Sony has had a great product for7 yrs now.......bill gates thought he would build the fastest leanest machine on the block and guess what SONY'S SELLING MORE....PERIOD!!
Dear old Mr. Gates would have been better served to use another name/co. to launch his new gadget...........just his name alone turns off most people! (maybe Enron would be intrested!)

Sony should have saved the money and put it into PS3 development. Nintendo felt a few years ago what Sony feels now. Except...now where's Mario?
