All of the major publishers are committed to XBox prog development which means the games will get better and better. PS2's days are numbered.
On what do you base this information? I'm actually very interested in buying a console system since the N64 seems completely dead. I usually wait until systems are utterly exhausted before I purchase a new one and now's the time. One year from now, which system will still be pumping out the titles? The PS2 or the XBox. Also, pardon my ignorance, but what's the deal with the PS3? Is it actually in development or just a prototype? | | skedatl$ To Provoke And Annoy Premium join:2002-01-29 Corona, CA

I based this on a quote from the Sony president.
"In a recent interview with The Financial Times, Kunitake Ando, president and CEO of Sony, said that the Microsoft Xbox, which comes with a hard drive and Ethernet adapter out of the box, could force the company to transition to the PS3 earlier than intended. "The biggest threat to the PlayStation 2 is that the Xbox changes the industry's life cycle," said Ando, who feels that it is unclear whether the current PS2 business model is sustainable and that its console life cycle could be reduced to three years as a result."

Playstation 2 is popular, but it's not going to kill off XBox, so to answer your question both will be. I think PS2 will remain more arcade based while XBox will move into that arena dominated by PC's, like 1st person shooters and online gaming. But all the publishers are writing for both. Even Sony has acknowledged that cash strapped Squaresoft may port Final Fantasy XI to Xbox.

Yes there's a ps-3 in development...............And as far as some people thinking that ps-2 is obsolete i guess it is just like my 4-mth old 1.7 gig amd/athlon with 512 ddr ram is considered old with the 2.2gig 2gig ram puters available now! common sense (and tech. reviews)tell ya that when a sys. (puter ,gaming or most technology) hits the stores it.s out dated!Dude if you like ps-2 get it...........dont listen to people that say its inferior.....because it's not.I have games from my reg. ps (over 200) that my kid's still play on the ps-2.There was less then .05% of games manf. (well over 1800) that couldnt play on the new sys. Also sony said ps-3 will be backwards compatiable just like ps-2 is.As far as the "whiners" who say look what happened to nintendo....... the whole reason i bought p.s. was because everytime they develop a gaming sys. ya have to trash $50+ games and start over.not to mention the fact that most if not all the games are geared toward kids (mine never played n/64 that the ex bought um so i traded it in for used games for the ps-2).In fairness to x-box Halo is an awsome game as well as the new driving game (cant remember name) but 2-3 or even 20 games isn't gonna make me go out and buy a bill gates product.I highly rec'd ps-2 as an option. BTW........you know how many manf. that were slated to create games for x-box backed out? PLENTY.......not because x-box stinks........its because sony sells more games period!! and they like profits last time i heard. | |
