Wanted: MacBook AC adapter & Battery

A neighbor just moved out and gave me a MacBook he didn't want anymore. He hasn't used it for a couple of years and had no idea where the AC adapter is. He said he replaced the battery in 2008 or 2009, so it likely is dead or dying. Anyone in or close to downtown DC at least have an AC adapter they want to get rid of?

BTW, not being a Mac person, is it even worthwhile trying to use this machine in 2012, or was it abandoned by Apple? I'm thinking of using it mostly when lounging about for browsing the web...maybe editing the occasional document. (Since I can't power it up, I have no idea what version of the OS or other software is on it.)

MVM,

Maybe you could take it to the Apple store and they could power that thing up for you.

An adapter is like $80 and a battery $180...don't want to spend that just to find out if I want to keep it or Freecycle it. Besides, Apple Stores have brainwashing wave generators...tinfoil hats are not fashionable over in Georgetown.

Does it have a round or squarish power input port ?

Also here is a $99 dollar battery and a $43.98 charger.

I found a cord through Freecycle. It's OK for casual use in the living room and out on the balcony. I fail to see what the big deal is about Macs. My 5 year old Windows notebooks running Win7 with the same amount of memory (2gb) and similar CPU specs dance circles around it...under heavy load. The Macbook takes at least 3x as long to launch Word or the browser with no other user apps running. A rather expensive toy if you ask me.
