Re: [DSL] Cellpipe random reboots / loss of sync (Check logs ple

said by Phibian:

P870HW51AV2 is the one I have. I got it from BliZZardX who got it from the US months ago. I've ordered the same thing but without the wifi (P870H51AV2) as I'm just using it as a bridge, from a local Ottawa supplier (www.shoprbc.com). I have not received it yet - no idea on ETA.

I just ordered the P870H51AV2 from them as well. Thanks for the source and tip.

Thanks to all for the info on alternative modems for this service. I just ordered my upgrade today to 25/7.

If the modem I receive reboot like many here, I will definitely look at a bought modem solution. I hate having to pay a rent for a piece of hardware and even more when this hardware is failing. We should have the right to use our own device. I know CNOC is on this with the CRTC, so lets hope its turn out well.

One question thought: What will happen when bell will try to connect to your modem to do an upgrade or something (as they seems to be doing on cellpipes) will they contact teksavvy to ask why a customer doesn't use their device?

The device has to initiate the request for an upgrade. There should be no issues with this as the non Bell modems won't know the address of the Bell TR-069 server and won't initiate any requests to it.

Answer: Who cares, non-issue;

The CELLPIPE will be fine with v1.0.4.3EF-STINGER on a Stinger remote,

providing of course;

configure and use it as a pass through modem (so that Bell cannot remote manage and deploy upgrades).

Bridge mode does not disable TR069 management/upgrade. Only way to do that is to go in the modem's management and specifically disable TR069 if the option is accessible to end-users.

I'll double check, from what I remember you can only disable its logging.

Update: end-users cannot disable TR069 as an option.

I just received my Cellpipe. On the sticker it says 1.0.3.6-STINGER, but in the web interface it says 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM

Does this one reboot?

Anyway, I cleared the system log and gonna leave it plugged in until monday (activation date)... I'll see if it reboots by itself.

Nope, you got lucky. As long as you don't get an update pushed, anyway.

Hmm, I wonder why they didnt update my cellpipe.
I've been running 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM for a few months now.
I guess I'm just lucky. (edit: or not, I think I outsmarted them)

found this in my modem log, since i manually disconnected the bell ppp connection the modem cant resolve the host, so it will never update.

i'm using the cellpipe in bridge mode.

make sure to go to WAN setting, set it to internet only, manual, and then hit disconnect, im pretty sure this will stop bell from being able to update the cellpipe.

Ok well at least we are narrowing our list of options. ZyXEL seems like the best vendor so far.

Actually, all they have to do is give you Cellpipes with firmwares they've already used. Just get rid of this stupid rebootalicious firmware.

We're talking about 2 separate things here.
1 is buying ZyXEL modems and the other is getting a working rental modem from bell.
We want both.
I'd really prefer NOT to rent, especially now since bell is sending out bad firmware.
So we want to show there are some working modems that teksavvy could sell if the CRTC would listen and allow it.

Well, I saw in the modem log which wasn't cleared, that it was updated several times....

So my Cellpipe doesnt have a "7330" sticker on it. Does that mean my remote is the IKNS Stinger?

I thought you said you knew you were on an IKNS remote?

I'm pretty sure this firmware version 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM was used on 7330 remotes in Ottawa.

I was told that about 4 years ago by a Bell guy, that is what served my street. But who knows if anything changed, especially with the VDSL2 rollout.

My ADSL1 is hooked up to a different remote, I am only switching to FTTN right now.

I thought the 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM firmware was only for 7330 but I could be wrong, so if it is syncing/online it should be 7330.
Remotes get full, or dont cover enough area, and so they have to build a new one, so even if 4 years ago there was an IKNS remote nearby they could have built a 7330 even closer to you since then.

They installed the 7330's down the street from me I think less than a year ago, and so last year i did not qualify for 25/7.

I don't think there's one closer, at least I've never seen it.

I guess we'll see once its provisioned. If I'm on a 7330 I'd be absolutely thrilled. I'd order that working Zyxel modem.

Well, there was a user on here who stated they get IPTV on a stinger remote and internet on 7330, the remotes could likely be right beside each other if one is full, provided its a densely populated area.

7330 remotes just started doing IPTV.

Stinger remotes didnt just start doing internet though , so the IKNS must have been full if he had to get internet on 7330.

I'm curious too see if this thing syncs.

If it does, watch for:

1. web pages will not load but modem shows connected

This will happen randomly.
