If you have a 5260, you need to telnet to 10.0.0.1 to display all this. If you are behind a Linksys (or other) router, you need to give the router a 10.0.0.x static WAN address (as I show at the front of the post) to be able to get to the 5260 without changing cables.

Is this correct? If it is, I must not be able to do telnet through the USB connection....

Come on new computer!

Yeah that's how my screen looked. Did you disconnect first then apply then continue?

What USB connection?

Your router setup looks good to me. Maybe your problem is with the telnet session. After you setup the router, you need to open a dos window and type

telnet 10.0.0.1

If you can load a web page through the USB port, I don’t know why telnet wouldn’t work.

To janderso1 and Post Op: Yes I just doublechecked...
disco first, change, and then apply...
Then telnet 10.0.0.1 in dos window. It opens up a
telnet windows window labeled "Telnet none"

Watching the Linky and 5262, I see communication between the two, but nobody's replying any text whatsoever in the dos or telnet windows, and after 15 or so seconds I get an error message indicating no Telnet connection, and I get to hear Homer (sick joke -- I hear Homer Simpson "Things keep getting Worse and WORSE!!" on error messages)...

Post Op:
My Linky is a BEFSRU31 3 10/100 ports and one USB port.

Lucky me, I'm using the USB port to the computer..
No network card in this computer...
I am using Linksys's USB software driver on computer for the USB port in order to surf.
MAYBE Telnet is written to only communicate through a network card, and not a USB driver ????

Well, I am waiting for a new computer with network card!

That sounds like a reasonable explanation and a good reason for getting a new computer. Maybe Jim knows a way around the USB thing if there is a way.

I suspect your problem is that you have a 5262 rather than a 5260 and Efficient has disabled telnet (or moved it to a nonstandard port number) for the 5262. Someone in the Efficient forum should know.

If you want to test a telnet session you can telnet to Ameritech’s mail servers
With the Linksys connected normally open a dos window and type

telnet mailhost.chi.ameritech.net 110

it should come back

+OK InterMail POP3 ready

type
user yourusername

it should come back
+ OK please send PASS command

type
pass yourpassword
it should come back

+OK yourusername is welcome here
type
quit
when you are finished

This link explains more about accessing your mail by telnet

You are Correct! I do have a 5262.... I tried the telnet to the mail server.... It worked...

I will post a Question on Efficient forum. Thanks...

By the way, I did make the RS232 adaptor, but never installed it once I found out that line diags (SN, DB, etc.) weren't there.... Thanks for the extra effort!!

Get sync rates from 5260 --- NOT 5262 (Darn!)

See this link:

»Efficient 5262 --- Is Telnet stripped?

It appears telnet is stripped from 5262 modems...
