[AT&T] AT&T, iPhone 4s: Siri won't make any calls

I can't seem to get Siri to make any phone calls. When I say "Call ContactName Mobile" she says ok, it looks like it's about to call and it ends up just sitting there doing nothing. I can see the little spinning wheel by the clock, but nothing ever happens.

I can text, email, and do everything else. Just not phone calls. I've tried adding a +1 to the numbers, adding 00's at the end, turning Siri OFF/ON, etc. But still nothing.

I think it's worth mentioning that if I continue to touch the screen thereby not letting the screen sleep, the spinning ball keeps going and going w/nothing ever happening.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm on iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) jailbroke w/modem firmware @ 1.0.14.

Stupid question but have you tried rebooting the phone? Has Siri ever worked in this way for you?

Doesnt help you but my Android phone has this same quirk with the email client. It just will not download email anymore at some point and the little status wheel will just spin. I have to restart it to restore the functionality.

I have tried rebooting the phone, but still haven't had any luck. Although this feature isn't absolutely critical to me since I can just make a call any number of ways. It's still frustrating.

i guess reverting to the original, non-jailbroken iOS version is out of the question? if it works after a factory reset, then you know it's the jailbreaking that screwed it up.

[/BQUOTE :

Yes. You need to update to the latest iOS version (5.1), and not be jailbroken. Siri works fine that way.

No you don't, Siri works fine on my jailbroken iPhone 4S on 5.0.1.

I was fearing that I would have to either update or have to erase everything and start 5.0.1 back fresh (jailbreaking it again, but losing everything: jb apps, settings, springboard layout, etc.) I've tried using the Pkgbackup app (cydia) but never quite understood how to get it to work after a clean install.

I know for sure that the Siri call feature use to work on my phone, even while it was jailbroken. But sometime from that point to now, I had to have installed something that screwed it up. Just don't know what that could have been.

Also are you in an area with a poor wifi or data connection?

I think I might have just fixed it. I decided to just go down the list of downloaded apps that interact with Siri in any way. And decided to delete them one by one.

The last one I deleted, Sireet, which allows one to tweet using Siri seems to have been the culprit. As soon as I just deleted it, resprung, and then tried using the call feature... it works.

Update: Yup, it works. I've installed back the ones I deleted, and it still works. It was the cydia tweak called "Sireet" which is a Siri command to tweet.

Thank you ptrowski, your advice actually made me just go down the list and start deleting cydia tweaks until it started working again.

Anytime! I knew it would not be the jailbreak itself and restoring to a firmware that cannot be jailbroken as someone suggested is just a post to discourage jailbreaking. Glad you got it fixed!

There's no way I'm gonna give up my jailbreak just because Siri can't make calls! If anything, I might restore with my saved SHSH blobs. But that's as far as I'm gonna go. I love my jailbroken phone.

Well, technically it was the jailbreak, and the fix - remove all cydia apps that screw with siri.

But hey, whatever.

It was the app, not the jailbreak that caused the issue.

So guns cause death, not the person pulling the trigger? Cars caus accidents, not the people driving them? The jailbreak did not cause the issue, the app did. I had apps I have downloaded from the app store in the past cause issues with my phone, so it's the phones fault, right?

No, Siri can dial numbers perfectly, unless some unauthorized app installed after a jailbreak breaks it.

Really. Not. Complicated.

So then it is the Apples fault for not fixing it. You cannot stop this chain of blame only when it is convienent for you.
Again I have used apps from the store that messed with the phone.

If the jailbrake was the cause of the problem then removing the app would not have solved the problem. Blame Apple if you want for not fixing the process. Other than that how about find some other thread bother people in?

For not fixing the bad app installed via a jailbreak? Neat.

Not at all, for not fixing the exploit that allows jailbreaking. Since you seem to see jailbreaking as the cause of all ills, shouldn't apple correct the issue that allows it?
