 | Can't get WRT54GL (Tomato) to work with Netopia 3000! I'm going absolutely crazy here! I previously had a 2Wire DSL modem set to bridge mode with the Linksys router handling PPPoE auth. I recently moved and I'm trying to do the same thing with a new Motorola 3347 (Netopia 3000) and I can't get it to work to save my life.
On the modem I set the following:
DHCP Server: Off Enable System Bridge: On
I then connected the router's WAN port to one of the modem's ethernet ports. The WAN status on the router shows a WAN IP of 0.0.0.0 and a status of "Connecting..." indefinitely.
I also tried unselecting Enable Gateway Option on the modem, which didn't do anything.
I'm out of ideas and I cannot get this to work. I just want the modem to act as a simple modem, passing the public IP to the router and not doing any routing or anything else. Please -PLEASE- help me get this working... |

Below are the changes needed to put the 3347 in bridge mode
Click the configure link Click the wan link Remove the checkmark from the enable gateway checkbox Click the Submit button Click the configure link Click the lan link Click the dhcp Server link. Select off for the server mode Click the Submit button Click the configure link Click the advanced link. Click the ethernet bridge link Place a check mark in the enable bridging function checkbox. Remove the checkmark from the enable wan-to-wan bridging checkbox Place a check mark in the enable bridging on port checkbox Place a check mark in the enable bridging on port checkbox Remove the checkmark from the filter pppoe only checkbox Click the Submit button Click the yellow triangle/icon under the help link Click the save and restart link |

 | I've attached a screenshot of the settings I have on the Advanced page. Is it possible the "filter pppoe only" setting is located somewhere else? If not, could this be what's preventing this from working? |
|
 | reply to goodtimeokc I hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere, but I also tried changing the "Default Server" setting to IP-passthrough, which is supposed to pass the public IP to a specified device (my router in this case). Even with that change the router is not being assigned a WAN IP. This is driving me nuts! |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | reply to goodtimeokc Since you're having problems with this method there is another method to configure bridge mode 3347 Bridge Mode
The ip passthrough cannot be used when the modem is in bridge mode When the 3347 make the internet connection the ip passthrough can be used The device must have its wan connection set as automatic/dhcp and you must release then renew the wan ip |

The only difference I noticed is that the modem status seems to get stuck on "DHCP Aquisition". The end result is that the router is still not assigned the public IP. |

The link I provided works for pppoe connection type If your connection type is dhcp you need a different set of instructionssaid by goodtimeokc:The only difference I noticed is that the modem status seems to get stuck on "DHCP Aquisition". What does your 3347 home page look like |

The modem is assigned a public IP which, in this case, *should* be getting passed to the router, but it's not.

What does your 3347 home page look like When I select "Enable System Bridge" it looks exactly like that. However, the alternate instructions provided above don't include this setting. When I follow those instructions I get the "DHCP Aqcuisition". I tried adding "Enable System Bridge" in addition to those settings and I get the home page as shown. |

 | Tried this and I still show 0.0.0.0 as the WAN IP on the router. When I do this, the Internet light still lights up on the modem, so it's still apparently doing the PPPoE auth. Should I be setting "Enable System Bridge" in addition to setting the ATM to "RFC-1483 Bridged Ethernet vcc1"? If not, how to you prevent the modem from doing the PPPoE auth? |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | Ok, here's a different set of instructions for you to try I would factory reset the 3347 before following the instructions
Click the configure link Click the advanced link. Click the ethernet bridge link Place a checkmark in the enable system bridge checkbox Click the lan link Select none in the restrictions drop-down menu Click the yellow triangle/icon under the help link Click the save and restart link |
|
 | I've tried enabling system bridge with Restrictions set to "None" and "Admin Disabled". Doesn't seem to matter.
Interestingly, I was able to use bridge mode by creating a PPPoE connection directly from Windows 7, so it does appear to be some sort of router incompatibility after all. Both routers I've tried worked flawlessly with my old 2Wire modem in bridge mode, so I'm not sure why they would be incompatible with the Motorola. |

wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | If you can use the windows pppoe client and it gets a public ip address the 3347 is in bridge mode Are you sure the routers wan port is set to use pppoe |
|
wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | reply to goodtimeokc If you can allow the 3347 to make the pppoe connection you can use the 3347 ip passthrough option this will work just as well as bridge mode |

I've tried disabling NAT on the modem but then none of the LAN clients (behind the router) can access the internet. Do you happen to know the proper steps for setting up IP passthrough? |

| reply to goodtimeokc It's been a while since I ran DSL but when something seems plain incompatible, here's a few things to consider in no particular order...
Got link lights both ends? Make sure you're not fighting a bad cable. If the ethernet ports are marginal or incompatible, you can always try some kind of switch instead of a direct connection for the Router WAN to modem LAN.
Make real sure nothing is filled in for hostname field in the GL, unless the ISP needs it.
Reset router to defaults and try again. Reinstall firmware.
Is the default modem LAN address the same as router LAN? Bridge mode shouldn't care but other things are possible. Shift one of them to another subnet and try again.
Going through the router set, say, DHCP on the WAN... are you able to get to modem setup page? Just for checking the whole path.
Last... find a forum for that particular ISP and equipment. Somebody may have found something... unique.
Good Luck. |
