RunCore, a Chinese maker of solid state drives...

The self-destruct feature might come in handy in totalitarian states like China.

And in somewhat related news...

Useful as heck. You can never tell when you'd want to fry the SSD drive of your mission-critical space launch, navigation or re-entry system.

I'm sure China would never allow any devices with a back door in them to be shipped to DoD suppliers...

Of course not! They'd never even think of such a thing

A simple hammer can be just as effective.

Smash the flash chips to bits, no one will ever be able to retrieve any information. Works equally well for mechanical drives too! Plus you can pick one up at any hardware store for cheap.

In the absence of a hammer, any solid heavy object should also do the trick.
