Re: Dish Network DVR with 6 tuners

Dish does NOT have 6 tuners!

It's 2 user-controlled tuners just like fios, plus a 3rd that tunes to a single transponder that ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX are broadcast on, so it can "record" all 4 shows at once by tuning to the one transponder. Thats where the other "4" tuners come from, they're virtual tuners, connected to one physical, non-user-controlled tuner.

Also, this third tuner is only active during prime-time, recording 3 hours of programming from the 4 major networks, and storing it for 8 days, afterwhich its deleted whether you want it to be or not.

For most people, it probably doesn't matter that they sort of cheat.. it's effectively 6 tuners at a time when the majority of people would be using them.

Personally, I don't watch any network TV shows, so it'd just be a useless 2-tuner DVR for me. I'll stick with my TiVo elite

I know, but it just seems a little too close to false advertising to me, but I guess the fine print covers that.

i hope the new FIOS ones dont have stupid restrictions like that, the key aspect about this, isnt "how can i watch all that content" it frees up the issues we have now where firstly we have to constantly add overrun to programs so we dont miss the final seconds/minute, when you have shows on the same night this can cause conflicts unless its all on the same channel

plus i occasionally find myself having to finagle the timeslots because of some new show i see advertised that i wanna check out but i already have another series in that same time, so now im looking at the guide to find if they're re-aired later that night, its just a pain, more freedom to record what we want when we want isnt hurting anyone
