Ping issues

Im not sure if this belongs here but i have a question. I have been dealing with time Warner on my internet and they say that there is very noticeable long ping times and are putting me to tier 3. well now its the waiting game and my internet is still super slow. does anyone have any ideas how to fix the issue? the pings are the same whether im plugged into a router or directly into the modem. could this be all on their end? Please help.

You have to be a gamer who else cares about 10ms? or less??
No you don't give those numbers but seems the attitude.

You get so good then just forget playing on line the ONLY thing that matters then is the arbitrary connection that again makes little difference to anyone but YOU.

Unless you are talking truly slow, like many seconds not MS for a Google search or as does fill in now likely has link before even done typing full topic search term.

We can't really help you without some trace routes, ping tests and perhaps modem signal levels too.

Thank you for the politically correct answer....

Still boils down to the same thing what are they really talking about?

Gaming get over it or just buy a big private pipe means that much to just you....

Truly slow lets hear more specifics/stats and really work on the problem because that is the info needed to offer anything.

In my area average pings are in the 40 to 60ms range but you know what, it doesn't matter to me because after using dialup for a while years ago I got used to high pings and I don't even notice much of a difference when it jumps to 250+.

In any case the OP asked for ideas on how to fix the issue but without any trace routes and signal levels not a lot can be done.

One other question have you tried swapping out the modem? It could be bad and if it isn't that it might be node congestion. Next time you talk to tier 3 ask them what the average utilization is for your node, that will tell you wether or not it could be congestion related. Since you have high pings at your modem I am leaning more towards a bad modem than a congestion issue.

Re: Ping issues

Thank you cpt. those were the 2 issues i asked about origanally and they say its not the node. now down to either buying my own or seeing how long it takes to replace my modem.

Don't bet on either fixing the problem again you were never given a ping/response guarattee just an over all best effort service unless you want to pay$$$$ for the priviledge.

And all those no response are not dead end just servers set to NOT respond to idiotic PING requests and save their time for better tasks but no you are too busy pinging your ideal like you were promised you actually weren't... something you just imagined.. for low bucks.

Yah know not even 10 ms is guaranteed in the Constitution.
