Desperate VPN help needed - PPTP Windows 7

I have been trying for about 4 months now to properly set up a PPTP VPN connection using Windows 7 standard VPN but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I am almost certain it has to do with routing or the way my user is set up (i'll explain below) and I have done a lot of prior research but I signed up on this forum in hopes of finally solving this mess. I found this thread while searching through the interwebs and followed the steps there for setting up the protocol for proper port forwarding but still no luck.

»VPN Help

My set up is as follows:

•Verizon Router: Westell 9100EM - wifi disabled, DHCP enabled, assigned static IP to my linksys router (see below) and to my target pc (see below)

•Linksys Router: WRT 310N - no ddwrt but will I need that? Static address 192.168.1.254, DHCP disable, internet connection type set to "automatic configuration - dhcp" subnet is 255.255.255.0

The two routers are connect LAN to LAN.

•My PC - Windows 7 ultimate, static IP set to 192.168.1.8, let's say user name is XXX

I currently set up host computer for vpn connection but under users in the incoming connections dialog I see my desired user name like: YY (XXX) I am assuming this is my user profile YY then my user account (XXX). Furthermore, in system properties my computer name is different than my user account, it is the same with the addition of -PC, therefore it is XXX-PC, could this be the root of my problems?

I want to be able to establish a VPN connection from either another computer on a totally separate WAN or from my iPhone but I either don't have the routing correct or I am putting in the wrong information. When I try to connect I put in the IP address of my Westell (Verizon) public IP address using any general web search for that address. I then put in my user account name and password like I would when I log onto my computer physically (XXX). I've tried typing in my computer name XXX-PC, user profile YY, and user account (which I believe to be correct XXX) but none seem to work. There must be something in the routing that isn't right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Not sure if this helps but when using NetPortal Lite from my LAN wifi to connect to shared folders from my iPhone, typing in my computer's user name doesn't work (it tries to connect to 192.168.56.1), I have to manually put in 192.168.1.8 to get it to connect properly. I am still unable to connect when outside my WAN/LAN. After pulling an ipconfig /all the 192.168.56.1 happens to be my virtual box ip (W8 consumer preview). I guess my WAN is split up between my wireless devices and my wired?
