No new speeds for you

FiOS rep just confirmed to me that the highest available tier in my neighborhood is 50/25. I don't get it. I live 12 miles from NYC in an affluent suburb, teeming with thousands of professionals that could greatly benefit from - and be willing to pay for - the higher Quantum speeds. How do they reach such a decision? Not to mention, they keep flooding my airwaves - TV and radio - with ads for the higher speeds. Wonderful.

Take it as a gift, the 50/25 tier appears to be really 58/38, better than the 35/35 and ten bucks lower cost

Your ONT can't support any speed higher than 50/25.

I already get 50/20 though - which is really 50/25. I wanted to check out 75 or 150. So many things using bandwidth in our home.

Well then why in the hell didn't the rep just tell me that was the reason? I'd be willing to pay for an ONT upgrade if that's all that's needed.

It doesn't work that way. If your are currently on a BPON ONT that can't get anything higher than 50/25, and there is no GPON in your area - you are stuck.

Dave, while your around, is the new 50/25 really provisioned 58/38?. That's what I and others are seeing for performance, just wondering if its a fluff that might disappear?

Grrrr....wish they find a way to filter out all the Quantum ads from my TV then.

I thought bpon ont's have a theoretical max of around 90. 75/35 data can function on bpon no?

It won't disappear - unless you disconnect video.....

It depends on the BPON ONT model.

That weird for me with 35/35 I get all the time 43/39 all for $94.99 with triple play

If i go to 50/25 I end up paying $109.99 and $114.99 for 75/35

To me it not worth it right?

Only you can make that choice, basically the upload is the same, you get 26+mb more on the download for your 5 dollar bill

I was being sarcastic since guppy is one of the haters for bundle pricing in the NY/NJ DMA

Don't be jealous, us New Yorkers pay for everything else to the nose between taxes you name it..a pack of cigarettes is $15, my monthly commute to work via metro train is $405 a month,

I think FIOS is our only break...LOL

No so much I hate the discount for the NY market as there is a constant theme of whining for what you do pay, which is below what every one else does. Must be something in the air or water up there

And I got you sarcastic bit

ha, at least you don't live in NYC, we have to pay new york city income tax. imagine getting taxed at 3 levels: 1) Federal 2) New York State 3) New York City!

That is great to know.

Question - why is it that some people get 69 upload speeds and others 75, on the same 150M bundle package?

Same here. I called a spoke with 3 reps. They told me that hopefully by the end of August they will have the upgrade done (to the network in my area) and I can get the higher speeds. In am stuck with the 35/35 plan. In fact, when I signed up for it, a tech called me back a few days later and said I would not see 35 on the u/l and he would give me a little more download speed. I test all the time and have 42 down and 23 up max. In the past year, the speed test have never exceed those speeds from various sites.

Since the bandwidth is shared the fluff kind of depends on how much bandwidth is currently available on your PON switch.

Well strange thing is I go to log on today and now I can get 75/35 the same price I have now for $94.99 for triple play that I have as 35/35

That is a no brainer I just renewed for 2 more years @ 94.99

Hopefully by the time I get home it will be upgraded.

I could have went to 50/25 for $89.99 but figured why not get the 75/35

Why? because the 50/25 tier is 58/38 , better than the 40/35 you have and its 240.00 savings over your contract

Well from what i understand with 75/35 can maybe get speeds as high as 90

For same price I am paying I cannot really beat it.

Does anyone know why in my order status says sending out a tech to my house tomorrow morning to complete install? Thought they do this all remotely
