Re: CNAM DIDs Level1 vs Level2 vs Level3 You are simply not being clear on what your business is.
I run a service where we provide local numbers that then route to long distance numbers. This has worked well for our subscribers for a long time now.. However, lately they are being blocked (somehow they know it is a DID that is routing to a LD number)....
That's VERY different from Vonage. |

 | Ok, once again I apologize gotta word this correctly .... I run a service for prisoners where we provide them a (local) number that then routes to a long distance number. The benefit is that they are not exploited where they are litterally charged 15 dollars or greater for a 15 to 30 minute call due to the number they dial would be Long Distance had it not been for a service such as ours. When the call is local they only pay between .50 cents to a dollar generally which is a far more reasonable rate (considerably closer to the outside world)
Now, currently if I CHOSE to... I could very easily put an ATA box in a persons home and route the calls to the box... Just like Vonage does... Frankly, the only difference I see is that we seek out numbers close to the facility vs close to the residence of the person seeking service.
I am trying to figure out
1. Other than I am not currently putting ATA boxxes in each persons home where Vonage does) where our services differ technology wise? 2. How would they know I am not routing to an ATA box instead routing to the phone currently in their home? 3. Is there a such thing as a "remote forwarding" detector? This is one of the terms they use remote forwarding or port forwarding.
Basically, can they tell somehow there is not an ATA box on the other end... Or is it clearly somehow they just see it in the DIDs I acquire.
Again, sorry for not being clearer... |

| reply to joosey68 1. Does the prison monitor (listen to) or log the destination of inmates' calls?
2. Does the prisoner get an IVR, or is each DID forwarded to only one destination? Does this in any way interfere with what the prison attempts to do in item 1?
3. Have you asked prison staff about the 'problem' and if there is something that you can do to alleviate any concerns they may have? I would guess they might be interested in being able to match the actual destination with the original call. They might be under a false impression that you, for example, are assisting an inmate defeat/mask true destination information they usually and routinely obtain in item 1 activities.
I can think of any number of similar 'possibilities'. Most are related to the fact that convicts do not have full 'rights' while doing penance to the government (people).
EDIT TO ADD: Of course, I could be wrong. |

 | I completely agree and more importantly yes I have attempted all you have stated.. Their concern is the dollar loss, it became clear after many conversations... and or correspondences.
The sad part is they generally do not penalize the prisoner.. They, are penalizing the sibblings, the mother, daughters and likes... These are the ones generally charged these rates to simply have somekind of bond with their loved one...
So, as a result many have opted to have todays technology fight back those opting to profit off of families trying to stay intact.. |

They might be under a false impression that you, for example, are assisting an inmate defeat/mask true destination information they usually and routinely obtain in item 1 activities. I don't about anywhere else but around here:
1. The company providing the phones at the prison records all calls, prisoner ID#, number dialed, and duration of the call. They have people who do nothing but look up this stuff and put it on CDs for prosecutors, probation and parole, and defense attorneys. This is a big moneymaker for the companies and a significant source of revenue for the institutions. If you've heard the term "prison-industrial complex", this would be an example cited by people using that phrase.
2. The prison phone will not allow DTMF after the initial call setup.
3. There aren't many absolutes in this world, but prison staff will always have concerns about anything that allows inmates to do anything. I am guessing if anybody asked staff, they would say "Don't do it" but if asked to point to a statutory prohibition, they would come up empty.
The OP would best be served by consulting an attorney familiar with prison policies and statutes in the jurisdictions served.
Nothing prevents manual call forwarding, i.e. a prisoner calls a number, the answering person initiates a 3-way call to another number, and then hangs up. Charges then accrue to the called person for both the collect call and the 3-way call. Many mothers, spouses and girlfriends of inmates rack up huge bills by doing their "loved" ones this favor.
In some cases, prison phone calls result in one unit of government taxing another, with the prison phone company taking their cut of the tax money. For example, when an indigent inmate calls their attorney, the attorney submits the bill for the collect phone call to be reimbursed by the court or whatever agency. (Note that in most cases incoming calls from attorneys are not monitored, to preserve client privilege.) -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your USNG coordinates: USNGWeb |
