i hate ATT I really do!

I have been with att dsl for more than 10 years, back when it was bellsouth. So i hooked directv hd dvr with on demand and i was sad when the on demand requires to download the show to my box. In a normal world everything would be perfect but with this efing caps that you eat up in no time (if you watch netflix, on demand, steam, etc)

As a consumer att limits my choices in life since mostly everything requires internet, i do not even stream netflix anymore, i go to starbucks or somewhere with free wi-fi and hopefully they do not block netflix servers (hospitals do)

If the 3% were abusing the network (att excuse) still doesn't reflect any monetary loss. Now they are limiting my directv experience, since the hd shows on demand you download them uncompressed.

FUCK YOU ATT I have no other choice in miami since every other dsl company are att resellers the other option is just comcast internet.

I hope the DoJ rule illegal to impose caps and you have to return all the money i have gave you for over use fees.

Btw i do not even download torrents, but when you download games through steam, netflix, windows updates, 2 computers in the house, you eat 150gig like it's nothing.

Thanks for reading my rant

so you have this?

which requires a cinema connection kit?

well, I haven't read of any user that was really ding'd for usage caps since ATT can't really monitor user's bandwidth properly. they tried to implement it but never succeeded.

when you log in to your customer account, do you see some sort of usage chart or stats for the current month?

if none, try blowing it away and see....you can always play dumb later....

I have the wireless version of the kit. The on-demand downloads the show uncompressed 1h equals 4gig of data. I checked my att email and it says I reached 90% of my usage. Some people say that att even count upstream for the usage cap but this is ridiculous, nowadays everything use an internet connection, even my electricity meter. Att started stealing from me since 4 months ago for overuse.

I used to like BellSouth, but this is plain abuse to the costumer with no basis about network congestion, in fact uverse which is newer technology has a cheaper monthly fee and higher cap than dsl. And me as a consumer and costumer cannot voice my dissatisfaction because there is no other company offering something better in Miami.

well.....let me ask you this...how were they able to justify that you did in fact use 90% usage already? was there like a visual chart or graph or something that you can see online or on paper?

I have read people getting emails, notices about their usage but ATT couldn't really justify it. Some even reporting inaccuracies...

I did ditch ATT for Comcast Biz when they started implementing caps. I justified my Biz connection since I cut the cable / satellite completely and had to make sure connection uptime.

They do have a graphic meter which I just don't bother to see, because if I call to complain there is only 2 outcomes. 1. I get kicked out from the service. 2. Take it like a man and still throwing my money at them since nobody is going to side with me, even if my router meter shows otherwise.

I am thinking in the possibility of changing to Comcast internet or move to a business dsl with att which costs the same and in the long run it will be cheaper

Windstream is doing business class internet in Miami.
My son just got them from his VOIP provider who uses them and it works pretty well. From my understanding, they put repeaters all over and beam to them from your location.

No I don't work for them and I still suffer with DSL/Bellsouth.

I pay 66.95 for Comcast Biz Starter which is 12/2 with speedboosts of up to 25/5

59.95 + 7.00 modem fee

no caps, better tech support, proactive downtime notifications, 4 hour repair window...

this is just internet for me, no tv subs. may vary in your market...

frankly, I wondered why I waited this long to jump to Comcast...

Comcast residential gives more room to breathe since their cap is 309 gb. I am going to wait to see what the DOJ is going to say. Hopefully they don't screw it.

Comcast resi? more room to breathe?

I got NO CAPS....resi caps got suspended for now..

»Enforcement of the 250 GB data consumption is suspended..

»[BW Meter] Comcast to Replace Usage Cap

if they do come back, it's going to be higher than ATT.

I wouldn't hold my breath until what DOJ says...

I can attest that the criminal ATT does fine the user for exceeding the bandwidth cap. I am fined almost every month as a customer of DSL Extreme. I would have moved to Comcast long ago except they cannot seem to provide reliable service to my location-which seems to be the last house on the end of their trunk. Comcast customer service sucks, and so with the fines from ATT amounting to 20-30 bucks over the base fee-it adds up.

just curious, how much extra bandwidth do you use that merits and extra 20-30 charge on your bill?

do you monitor it? how? and does it match ATT's meter or something?

asjamias, ATT does charge you for the fraction, let's say you go over 1-2 gigs from the cap you get the 10 dollars fine.

I've got charged for going over twice and it's not impossible to use more than 150gig, if your house has more than 2 computers, and both computers are watching netflix stream and besides that, buying games through steam, hulu, normal browsing, playing online, patches, skype, wi-fi calling if your cel phone has no reception in your house (android ftw) all that eats 150gig like an Ethiopian in an all you can eat buffet.

I know.....

I was just wondering how much extra bandwidth = charges...

that's why I jumped to Comcast biz where I could use my connection freely...I never was able to see how ATT does this bandwidth monitoring = charges thing.......

I got more than 3 internet connected devices at home that connects to netflix and other streaming services.

I was glad when AT&T announced caps last year, that there was a local DSL provider I was able to switch to that doesn't have caps... even advertises on the radio, "unlike other providers, we don't cap you".

It's a little more expensive than the same speed on AT&T (6Mbps), $49.95/month with a $3.47 "Recovery Fee"... but it's been very reliable so far, and I don't have to monitor usage, which is good, since I watch a LOT of streaming video (mostly the TWiT network with Leo Laporte), and my son does a LOT of online gaming and YouTube watching.
