But at least the PD is not puking excuses, and they are doing the right thing by already having repair crews at the house. so this city at least knows how to handle things rather than dragging their feet on the repairs.

Well the thing is they didn't storm the wrong house. Their mistake is they relied on a mere IP address as definitive proof of the suspect living at that residence, when that would not necessarily be the case with an open wifi access point.
So, basically, Police need to learn that you need more than an IP. Even if you get the right residence tied to an IP, it doesn't mean that the "suspect" lives at that residence.
I'm just waiting on new laws forcing people to lock down their wifi AP's (no I don't agree with such laws). Some European nations already have them.
