Re: Existing wireless DSL router as wireless range extender The VersaLink 327W does not support "wireless repeater".
If you can get a wired connection to where you want the AP, then you should be able to configure it as in option #3 in the following FAQ: »Verizon Online FiOS FAQ »What are the tradeoffs between the various router configurations -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

If it was a repeater (and I can't tell from his post), it was connecting to something else wirelessly. Actiontec does not support WDS. quote: Connect Westell VersaLink 327W to ActionTec MI424WR Using Any of the LAN Ports

pacmann join:2012-07-05 Sunset Beach, CA | reply to birdfeedr I see Wikipedia says it's wireless distribution system. I guess I'd need to go to DD-WRT.com to make it WDS compatible??? |

pacmann join:2012-07-05 Sunset Beach, CA | reply to birdfeedr Here is the link for the ActionTec MI424WR from the DD-WRT.com website: »www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Su···ctiontec |

birdfeedrPremium,MVM join:2001-08-11 Warwick, RI kudos:8 | reply to pacmann WDS is a common term for wireless repeater used in your original post. If you want to extend the wireless range, you have several choices, each of which has it's own advantages. Both sides of the wireless link need to be WDS compatible. The Actiontec, as shipped by VZ, is not and cannot be configured for WDS.
1. A WAP, possibly N-wireless, connected wired to the Actiontec primary. There's a Trendnet model, the name escapes me at the moment, that works well for this. Search the forum, it's popular, and can be found inexpensive at times.
2. An improved antenna. Look for something similar to a Hawking 9db replacement antenna.
3. If distance is involved, search for antenna reflectors, purchased or home-made, to focus the existing radio beam.
4. If only WDS will work to solve your problem, you'll need to add two devices, both capable of WDS. One will be connected wired to the Actiontec primary LAN. The other will be located in the remote location.
Good luck. |

birdfeedr- would this be the TRENDnet TEW-637 AP? I am using one as a WAP and it works great. |
