Re: High-security first pet naming guidelines Cats respond well to names so long as they associate that call with food or whatever else they want. On the other hand, none of our cats responded well to their names if they thought they were being taken to the vet. -- It is easier for a camel to put on a bikini than an old man to thread a needle. |

 | Ours always get multiple names - they manage. I had a cat named Walk of Life >Spuds>Ralph (she did)
Now it's AlphaOrionis>Whiteshoes Johnson> Johnson>Shoes. AlphaOrionis is a Snowshoe, so she does have white shoes. She also got called Delta Ass, Triangle Ass, Mailbox Ass, and Gladys Kravitz by daughter.
We have Meez - it's what she is, Fluffbutt or Fluffass, ditto. |

Cats are plenty smart. It's only their humans that aren't, and cats have made sure of many untruths over the years. That's why they're cats! |

| reply to La Luna I realize this whole thing was way off topic. It was never about whether cats know their names (my wife always said a cat had a secret name that nobody else knows), but whether you or I could remember a first pet's name as a hint for password recovery. I think I'd have trouble with that now. Now if I knew one of those secret cat names, maybe that would be a good hint. -- It is easier for a camel to put on a bikini than an old man to thread a needle. |

| reply to jaykaykay I used to play fetch with a Siamese-mix tom cat. He'd bring back the toy a couple of times and then the next time, he'd look at it and me and wait, as if he were suggesting that it was time for me to fetch. So, I did. We also had a Pug, but he wasn't any good at fetching. One time he tried to get a frisbee off the ground, but he couldn't get his teeth under it. I think that discouraged him permanently. -- It is easier for a camel to put on a bikini than an old man to thread a needle. |
