Hmm, when I cancelled my digital cable and later my cable modem, I had to return the equipment to the local center. When I was in college and brought home the cable box at the end of the semester (I finished finals before the cable company come on campus to pick up the cable boxes) I was charged for the box and had to drive up to return it.
The idea here is that if AT&T (or any cable/broadband provider) makes it a pain in the arse to cancel service, you are less likely to go through the trouble to do so. If it was a matter of calling to cancel the service then leaving the equipment on the front step for the cable guy to come retrieve, they probably would've lost more customers when the added that annoying TV Guide thing at the bottom of your screen when you change channels. |
