Echelon was the old system done in the 80's mostly. It basically sucked in all international calls via satellite then performed keyword searches. Nowadays satellites aren't around much, everything is fiber optic, thus the need for a new system. -- Getting people to stop using windows is more or less the same as trying to get people to stop smoking tobacco products.
