| Tutorial PSP - Chrome Text Here's a tutorial to create this kind of Chrome Text.

Let's begin by opening a new window. Choose a size at 400x300 with white background. It's best to work with a large space, more room for you to work with.

Go ahead and click the Text Tool and create some text. For this example, I use Times New Roman at 72 points in Bold.

Our text is now filled with black with a selection around it ready to go.

Now go Selection>>Modify>>Feather

Select 5 pixels of feathering.

You should get something like this:

On the color palette, make the foreground blue (R:0 G:0 B:255) and the background white (R:255 G:255 B:255).

Select the Flood Fill tool and select Linear Gradient. Select #1 Foreground-Background and click OK.

Use these settings for the flood fill tool. Full opacity (100) and Blend mode at Normal and Match mode is at None.

With the Flood Fill tool, flood fill the selected text at full opacity 5 times.

Next, go on over Edit>>Clear (or you can simple press the Delete key).

Your image should like this.

Next go to Effects>>3D>>Cutout.

In the color area, Make the shadow color to white (R:255 G:255 B:255). and make sure box is checked in for "Fill interior color". Now make the interior color grey (R:128 G:128 B:128)

Next go on over to Layer>>New Raster Layer

Go ahead and name the raster layer to your liking. I named it "DropShadow" in this example.

Now make sure that the new raster you created is selected.

Now go on over to Effects>>3D>>Drop Shadow

As for drop shadow settings, it's all to your taste. These are the settings I used for this example.

Your image should look like this at the moment:

On the color palette, change the foreground color to white (R:255 G:255 B:255).

On the layer palette, select the background image.

Go ahead and de-select the image by going to Selections>>Select None (or you can simply press Ctrl+D)

Next hop on over Effects>>Artistic Effects>>Hot Wax Coating.

Your image should now look like this.

Head on over to Effects>>Sharpen>>Sharpen More

Your finished product should look something like this. Try some other colors. Experiment. Have fun

Here's an image after toying around a little bit.

Note: This was done under PSP7, so please be aware that the lay out of the tools may be different for other versions of Paint Shop Pro.

 | Hey Red, I think what gave you that kind of image was from using a transparent background in the beginning. The backgrounds become crucial when doing such chrome texts in this fashion. So try again, start a new image with a solid white background. That should do the trick |

I think I did something wrong on one of the steps, I didn't get very much blue in the final product. =o(
Actually, it was the part where you said to delete it and then do the cutout. When I did the cutout, it pretty much turned the whole thing grey. At any rate, here's mine. ;o) -- Need help with your avatar? Just ask! Also check out the Avatar/Graphics Help Forum for some great ideas! [text was edited by author 2002-03-14 10:18:24] |
