Re: Hotmail replaced by Outlook.com in Microsoft shake-up

Ah, stupid question, but how does my hotmail address (xxx@hotmail.com) magically become xxx@outlook.com without causing me an enormous amount of grief?

On the IT side, this only further confuses the casual user, in terms of support: "No, I mean open Outlook, not go to outlook.com. Yes, that used to be Hotmail. Yes, I know it was called Windows Live for a while. No, Outlook. No, not Outlook Express. OK, which Outlook are you looking at? I'm not sure where your e-mail is..."

First, if you're a Windows Phone user, you likely *don't* want to change your @hotmail.com (or @live.com) address to @outlook.com.

If you want to keep your existing address, you can make an alias. Log into your Hotmail/Live account as always, and see the new UI. Click on the Settings icon and choose "More mail settings". In there you'll see "Create a Outlook alias" [sic]. Click that, and you can create an alias to @outlook.com. You have the option to just direct mail to that address to your current Inbox, or to a new separate folder. A few minutes later, you'll get a confirmation e-mail, and presto.

you can log into outlook.com using your existing hotmail.com email - no need to change it if you don't want.

It's very nice (outlook.com) as an interface. Looks like outlook 2013.
