 | [DD-WRT] Cisco M20 + WRT54G I have an M20 router as my "host" router and am trying to set up my older WRT54G router as an access point\wireless repeater across the house.
I have the WRT54G router with the latest DD-WRT firmware installed and I have DHCP, SPI, and NAT filtering all disabled on the WRT54G router. I also have it in REPEATER mode for wireless with the same SSID as my M20 router. I've also tried it in REPEATER BRIDGE mode but I do not have a cable from the host router run to this router (which is what I believe this mode is for).
My questions are, is this possible to run this setup and to achieve both LANs to communicate with each other over wireless and to extend the signal from the M20 router to the WRT54G router and a radius around the WRT54G router and for all devices connected to both routers to be able to communicate with each other (over wired and wireless connected that are connected to either)? If so, what am I doing wrong and how do I correct it?

 | You need to either turn on DHCP in Repeater mode or turn off DHCP and use Repeater bridge mode. You don't need a cable to run to the host router.
Repeater mode requires your 2nd router to have DHCP on.
Repeater bridge mode requires your 2nd router to have DHCP off.

 | reply to Noah86 I have the M20's dhcp on and the wrt54g off. When you mention the setting of dhcp being on or off, do you mean on the wrt54g?
Thanks |

 | Yes.
Did you read the link. It literally gives a step-by-step process of how to set up both routers.
Since you want to extend wireless signal and connect over wireless, and have clients on both devices see each other, you need to be doing repeater bridge mode.

I'm guessing you didn't do the following. You need to assign yourself an IP+Sub+Gateway while connected to the repeater router (2nd router, WRT54G) to set it up, since it will have DHCP turned off on the repeater and it will not be connected to your host yet. Once connected, manually set the IP, Subnet mask, Gateway address on the repeater router. I hope you also matched the wireless security settings on both routers.
Once they're linked you can turn on auto-DHCP on your computer instead of static IP. |

 | reply to Noah86 Yeah my bad . I didn't see the link, I replied on my tablet lol. I thought it was an ad at first. I'll check it out, thanks |

 | reply to Noah86 Oh I also have mac address filtering on my main router, I mirrored the mac addresses into the repeater router, is that correct? Also do I need to add the repeater to the list as well right? |
|
 | You only need to add them to the repeater router for clients that want to connect to the repeater router. I guess it doesn't hurt adding more than necessary.
Yes you'll need to add the repeater to the list on your host router.
You might want to turn off mac filtering initially to get it set up, along with any other firewall/filtering/security rules you have. Then turn them back on after you see they are linked. |

 | reply to Noah86 I got it working, I had initially done everything you told me which is why I was clarifying everything along the way during our dialogue but I found the mistake I made; I put the wrong MAC address into the host router of the repeater router, it was off by the last letter (I think I put in the wired MAC address or WAN MAC address instead of the router's LAN Wireless address).
After replacing the MAC address with the proper address everything was up and running.
One last question, why is access to the router's web gui so slow? It's slow over wifi and over wired (either to the host router with wifi or wired or to the repeater router with wired, all scenarios have fairly slow load times with the DD-WRT firmware page(s)).
Thanks for your help in helping me narrowing down the error on my part. |

 | Glad I could help. No idea on the slow part. I went back to Tomato after their forked mods added support for new devices. Hehe. |
