How is getting results from your own e-mail if you are logged into your G-Mail account public? Your thread title and the Yahoo! news article make it seem as though everyone would see your e-mail in their searches which isn't true...

But the thread title is way more fun. Bash Google.

I think you might have done. I don't see that 'me seeing my emails on the main google results page' implies 'me seeing your emails on the main google results page'. (Assuming both of us actually had gmail accounts).

After all, it's not as if 'the main results page' actually identifies a single page of results that every google user sees.

Yes. Yes you did. You read it wrong and then jumped over here to show us all how evil Google is. Evil google will let me search through my own personal gmail from google.com. Evil google making my life easier.

"Your G-Mail content is going public"

Uhm, no. You will not be reading my gmail via google search or any other method short of having direct access to my gmail account. Which you won't be getting.

But thanks for playing!

When I saw "Main results Page" I assumed it to be the public one. I had numerous free e-mail accounts when G-mail came out and have never needed to sign up for any Google services so I didn't make the connection. Sorry.

Re: Your G-Mail content is going public. ( NOT )

Really wasn't against you. I see Google bashed all the time here. Maybe right or wrong. Most regulars know where they stand on the issue and if and how they would use Google or not.
Thing is your original headline did make it seem now anyone could see anyone. That would be over the top period.
When it is just a change and only you can see it then it is either a feature some will like or not. But not a drastic major security hole. That is the difference. There are some here so passionate against all Google stands for they are just waiting for that one major blunder to pounce on. I am liking Google as free and for now trust what i use them for. For one I am a nobody and well Google does not care about me nor even a rouge employee would not.
Now some just may not like the new feature as they do not think crossing over even with your own account on Google is good. That may be a topic. Just not as scary.
So who hates the crossing over between the same accounts different tools Google is doing? Is it a benefit or a bad thing.
Plus the always would I like to combine the accounts as one big one thing? Do I have any other gmail accounts would I like to access at the same time.
For me I have a google apps with a domain name a google plain jane account and a google university account. I have never crossed them just because it would confuse me as I am not that smart. Also, too much info at once I will claim adhd. Plus yes security between accounts and uses.

Yep. Plus search plain Google then end up with a side screen showing results from my email then another with images from my Picasa.
It seems good and some may like this integration of everything. Also monitors are larger so that may not be an issue. Yet info overload. If I want email I open email. If I want google search I open google search For now I have two monitors one ok size the other smaller. may go to three.
Thing is if i am working with email I may be doing a separate search. So I like two separate window one for email and one for google plain search. So not a window tries to do everything but can not. Keep my gmail window open while doing a google search or even several windows open at same time and go between them.
This seems like they may be trying to get things on a smart phone etc.

Smart phones, linux UIs, and Macs have been doing this for years with the internal search and a search engine plugin.

What's your point?

Smart phones, linux UIs, and Macs have been doing WHAT for years ? I started this thread thinking that Google was making private info public, and it was quickly pointed out that I had come to a ridiculous conclusion from the Yahoo story.
I have no chapter in my "tech religion" bible about Goolge, if that is what you were asking.

No, but their computers scan my email to serve ads, which are promptly dumped by AdBlock Plus Google employees aren't reading my email any more than your mail provider reads yours.

I don''t mind my provider reading my emails, because I am my email provider.
Isn't that the best solution to keep privacy under control?

Recently my ISP changed to Yahoo mail. There are several areas where they mention that they scan your email to gather statistics, etc. This is mentioned several times in their new TOS. I refused to switch so I purchased an email account with a firm that does not scan my email.

Google is not going to search the content of everyone's gmail for public usage. I am assuming if there is something in your email, it will display on your search page if you are logged in.

Kinda like that.

I use Gmail though Thunderbird or Eudora. I have the account set up to delete messages from server once read. So are they keeping copies of all mail besides reading it?

I never log in to the actual Gmail page, and I never log in to search on Google.

I'd love it if Google linked all the correspondence about a cat's impacted anal glands.

TTBOMK Gmail ignores the client DELETE command, and retains all of your email, even the spam.
