Can you tell?

Click for full size
Canon EOS 7D
400mm 1/8000th +0.6ev F8 ISO800

I was not able to capture this bird in the way I wanted, so decided to play. This is something I never do with my own images, because I am sure someone would be able to tell.

Can you tell this is two separate snapshots and how? I appreciate honest opinions.

shot in the dark, but is the water a different shot?

Something does not look right about the transition between the water and dirt foreground. Almost like some sort of aggressive feathering was applied.

no shadow under the bird. It looks like bird/water was from 1 image and the ground from another image.

Focus- the bird's feet are in better focus than the stones near them.

Today I saw something that reminded me of you. But don’t worry, I flushed and everything went back to normal.

I agree with Tmpchaos re: the feet and focus. That said, I actually don't think that it would have been noticed, at least not by me, had you not asked.

Everyone is right. I didn't spend too much time with it, but was curious to see how quick everyone found the line. Had you not known it was two images would you have noticed?

Thanks for the replies. I don't think this is something I will be doing to my images now or in the future.

Yes, I would have spotted it. The line is simply too obvious. If you had used a bigger smoothing brush and lessened the hardness it would have made it less noticeable.

Double crested cormorant I believe - Yes, I did notice the difference in contrast, difference around the feet and a slight halo around the tail. It's still better than I could do though!

First of all. my eyes aren't good enough to get all the detail everyone saw. Secondly, I thought it was a nice image, and again, had you not asked about it, I would continued to have thought the same. Many images are played with/edited/rendered just for the fun of it or to get a result that an individual is looking for...not to fool anyone into thinking otherwise. It is one of my favorite things to do, as you all know. Oft times, it's a matter of time and patience, but at other times, it's merely a matter of another goal, any of which are fine.

I know, you didn't ask what I replied beyond can anyone tell. But, I do think that the goal is as important in any image.

Age is a very high price to pay for my maturity. If I can't stay young, I can at least stay immature!
