Re: [iO] New Jersey All Digital I live in Jefferson (Morris County), and have experienced the following in the last week:
- Any TV's without set-top-boxes (direct coax to the TV) now show a picture stating that a cable box is required, any channel.
- Our TiVo Series 4, using a multi-stream card, subscribed to iO Silver, does not receive any SDV channels. However, NFL and Redzone now work. Any SDV channels have never worked.
I was told by phone rep's that tuning adapters are no longer needed for my area. However, an online chat rep has told me otherwise, that I do need an adapter still, and "there isn't a designated time at the moment" when adapters will no longer be required. |

 | Those slates telling you "You need a box to view channels" is what is being broadcast over analog. Until it is black screen, do not even bother removing any TAs as the channels will still be in SDV. |

I'm not saying she was right, but thats what she said. |

 | My area just went all digital. One of my Tv's has no box and I get all the digital channels - 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, etc. The cable reps always say that you need a box to view any channels. This is only true if you have an old SD TV. |

The only exception exists within the New York City boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn where Cablevision secured a waiver due to their assertions of signal theft from phone and internet only customers.
To blacknoi: I recommend you connect the Cable TV directly to the input of a TV with a QAM tuner. Then perform a full channel scan. Chances are if the TV can receive digital channels using an antenna, it can also receive Clear QAM.
Of course, it is in Cablevision's financial interest to encourage their subscribers to have a converter on every TV, even if the representatives provide vague answers to customers questions that would confuse a lay person. |

Correct, but it does not appear that will be the case for much longer since it appears the FCC is going to allow encryption of basic. I suspect that is why Cablevision is talking about having a DTA available within a year since with a DTA they can make a more persuasive argument that the customer is not being disadvantaged. » www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-2···als.html» www.zdnet.com/fcc-to-allow-telev···0003483/-- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

 | reply to Pooz I'm in Jefferson as well as hence the Lake Hopatcong, NJ designation and thus in the Morris County system. I just did my weekly QAM/Analog scan and I show no further changes and no messages showing on any analog channel stating I need a box. I still receive 39 analog channels and the same QAM channels I've been getting both basic channels and otherwise. They're full of hot air right now. I've read previously about what TheWiseGuy is referring to and only then will QAM tuners on Digital/HDTV eventually be useless. |
