[Line Problem] Beware AT&T - UVerse up, no POTS now
My Dad has had AT&T phone service and AT&T DSL for years, but after fighting with horrible DSL issues over the past few months, he decided to change to UVerse for Internet only.
His install date was 9/11, and UVerse was turned on and DSL was shut off.
The problem is, when they shut off DSL, they shut off his phone service as well.
He contacted them and they told him it would be 72 hours at best.
He's 72 and retired, and the area, despite being a Milwaukee area suburb, has very poor cell service - between 1/2 bar and none on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint - so if he would need to call 911, he's hosed.
He spoke to a manager at AT&T today and made sure they knew that, and their response was more or less "tough luck."
I can't believe the people at AT&T can't get something as simple as shutting off DSL without disconnecting POTS service altogether right, or that it would take 72 hours to restore what is literally lifeline phone service.
Anyone know if there's a PUC in Wisconsin to complain to since AT&T corporate obviously doesn't care?
(My favorite part - they offered to call him. Good luck with that one.)

Problem is simple..... the Uverse people moved the wire to the house from the POTS card to the Uverse Card and did not connect the Pots Card to the Uverse card...... it is the same 2wiere cable pair for access to the house..the Uverse techs might (note MIGHT) have responded better......
