Shuttle Endeavour

The Endeavour will be passing over the SoCal area around 10:30 AM Friday morning with a scheduled landing @ LAX around 11AM. Passover points include the Calif Science Center, Dizzyland, Griffith Observatory and the Getty Center. Good "Kodak moments" for all! It will be transported to the Science Center on Oct 12-13 and will open to the public on Oct 30.

I'm hoping I can catch a glimpse of it while I'm in Northern California. I'll be on a similar course from the Sacramento area to the Bay Area around the same time as the shuttle earlier Friday morning.

I work near LAX. Parts of Imperial Hwy will be closed for audience views of the landing at LAX.

Traffic is going to be a nightmare here.

Didn't know they were going to buzz Anaheim. Might have to load some Kodachrome in the Brownie and head up the 5.

They're reporting they will drop down to 1500 feet at certain places for viewing.

It was a couple of miles out, but I do have it on video. It is now heading down the coast to you.

Saw the shuttle and the 2 F-18's escorting it around LAX. Didn't really have the best view from work, as I could only see it between a couple of buildings from ground level. The I-105 was in the way during the LAX flyby (I was on the south side of the 105). The freeway was jam packed, as CHP decided they were outnumbered, and pointed the way for the cars to stop and park.

A few hours later, I went to another building and saw the shuttle near the terminal south of Bradley Int'l terminal, next to 2 cranes. Peering through binoculars, the shuttle still looks incredible.

So sad to see such a legacy end.

No. I read conflicting information about where it would be and when and I have no patience for being in the wrong place at the right time.

After seeing some of the pictures and videos, I am now kicking myself for not doing what I could to get a glimpse of it.

There are some pretty nice ones on Flickr, including in the So Cal group. Better than mine would have been.

But they would have been YOURS. That is how I feel about my astronomy pictures. Sure, I could download much better ones from the internet, but the ones I take are mine.

Every time I see a great Shuttle picture from California, I kick harder.

I too tried my best to see it, but all I saw was when it was headed to Anaheim - a large, low-flying plane in the distance. Then the letdown came when it flew over at one of those moments when I was inside talking with a customer. Neighbor took some awesome pics just to rub it in. I'll wait until the crowds have died down when its on display at the Science Center to check it out.

After many delays it's finally "docked" at it's new home.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled traffic gridlock.
