Ohhhh WOW!!!! How neat!!!!
It flew right over our house about 500 to 1000 feet up. No camera though. I was outside and it went over my head. I couldn't believe it. |

I was able to see it as it headed toward Monterey, with its chase plane. From my vantage point it was probably over the Los Gatos area, and had already started climbing in altitude. |

I have seen an orbiter up close (Discovery) so I know how big and massive they are. With no payload the orbiter weighs 176,000 lbs. It's amazing how a modified 747 can support it and fly with it on top. NASA has lots of cool info and videos on the process (scroll right):

I arrived at South San Francisco High School this AM, and it flew directly overhead. People were taking pics at the school. |
